Paulette's is a quaint diner we stumbled upon during a quick Google search for a bite between baseball games. We were intrigued by the potential for great food often found in places like this and I enjoy trying the local eateries when out of town. However, our experience left much to be desired.
Parking was a challenge with a tiny lot that accommodates about 10 cars, forcing us to park on the street at a busy intersection. Additionally, Paulette's only accepts cash or checks, which felt outdated in today's world, although they do provide an onsite ATM if needed.
If you require a handicapped accessible entrance, this isn't the place. While there is a ramp on the inside of the entrance, there is a step on the outside and a sharp angle into the second door, both doors have a push/pull mechanism.
The service was sluggish, reflective of a diner catering more to locals than out-of-towners. Flies buzzing around our food added to the discomfort of the dated ambiance. Seating is one open small area, no privacy at all, tables are quite close to each other.
I ordered a cheeseburger and immediately noticed it was made with a thin, frozen patty, lacking the freshness I had hoped for. My husband and son opted for salads; while the ranch dressing was watery, the taste was acceptable. Requesting extra dressing didn't seem well-received by the server.
Specials were advertised on two separate boards, but our server failed to mention any of them. I only noticed one board upon visiting the somewhat dilapidated restroom. After we got our food, we never saw our server again. When we finished our food, I went up to the counter to ask about our bill. The slips are just lying there, and the gal had to figure out which one was ours.
Overall, Paulette's fell short of my small town eatery expectations with its parking challenges, limited payment options, slow service, and subpar food quality. It seems better suited as a local hangout rather than a destination for visitors seeking a satisfying...
Read morePaulette's is my favorite diner in the whole wide world. When I went to college in Tiffin I ate there as much as I could afford. When I come though the area now I try and time my trips to line up with mealtimes.
The atmosphere is charming and homey, like your grandmother's kitchen down to the floral wallpaper and pictures of lighthouses. The staff feels like a tight knit family and they always seem happy to see you.
Everything on their menu is good, but their gravy is the real standout for my money. It's good on the chicken fried steak and it's good on the biscuits. Their corned beef hash omelet can't be beat and the coffee is strong and bottomless. They serve thick cheesy burgers and piping golden fries, beating the cost of fast food and far exceeding the value.
If aliens landed and asked to be shown American food, they should be brought to Paulette's with...
Read morenot a good day in Tiffin. I phoned in this order to but i was held up at the shipper waaaaay later than expected so i dont fault paulettes for my eggs being cold(not their fault i was late) but just look at these over easy eggs, looks like they were kicked around the kitchen,or dropped.ok so the eggs are a little messy, but what really gets me is that in 2021 they dont take credit cards, sure there is an atm machine right by the counter to pay and it charges $3 and my bank charges $3 so my cold sloppy breakfast cost $26($5 tip, i didnt look in the box before i left)as a traveler i dont keep alot of cash on me.I as for one would gladly pay the 1% or 3% upcharge for the use of my credit card rather than pay...
