(Update) 2 years since the 1st review,
They changed the kitchen crew and the food is quite salty, oily, and less delicate, and their counter service has gone South. And, they do not have those variety I had mentioned in the original review and pictures soon after I posted it.
Hence 3/5nat best.
Additionally, The new workers act awkwardly quite often, and handed my takeout bags to someone else quite a few times, too.
And in one incident, a server treated me as if I did not pay but grabbed the takeout due to her memory lapse and she insisted to her colleague I did not pay (I left my phone in the car and couldn't prove I paid to her and received the email receipt). Soon, she corrected herself, but, she never apologized. Offensive.
The owner has not been present for ages, to monitor the poor operation like this incident and some more before. He does not respond to feedback on-line, linked with the email receipts. Gone South, too.
Still, the place is open almost all year round. Their operation is simply not consistent with the mentioned greasy, saltier food and noticeably poorer service. It is not a special place any more as there are other places which offer about the same level of food and service of 3/5.
We are hesitant to go back frequently like we used to. They need to run this place like the first couple of years since their opening.
Now, it has gotten noticeably lame. Too bad.
(Original) Wow, during this long lockdown period, Waterside Market staff are hard working. I am impressed with their operation and the high standard of their food and the nice manners to us. They posted the sign clearly posted on the window at the entrance, only to allow up to 3 people at once, in their medium size space to ask us tk wear masks, and, they blocked the terrace and tables and chairs to discourage people to hang around. And, they run a strong fan to ventilate the dining area air out constantly, and they also put a large table to double the distance to the cashier to place the card readers with menu, hand sanitizers. The 4 kitchen staff behind the cashier also wear masks and gloves continuously.
Their takeout foods are chicken pot pies, mac and cheese, chicken wings to Light pasta dinner and ribs at $11-16, and tiramisu and cheese cake in slices- all well prepared and nicely displayed. And you can purchase bottled wine, only for consumption with your take out food (town alcohol license regulation).
We could tell how great their quality is and our takeout food tasted like it was still their restaurant served meals.
We ordered a large cup of beef chili (more meat than soup) with a slice of corn bread, 2 gourmet sandwiches (BLT and Roast chicken), and 2 container meals from the refrigeration wall and we tasted their gentleness and passion for food.
Steve, the owner's gentleness and the outstanding teamwork of the staff who stay for years are still their key element of their strength proven in this difficult CoVid-19 lockdown time.
Unlike my disappointing experience in Edgartown, Exxx Love, this Waterside Market's operation is exemplary and should be benchmarked by others, then, all Tisbury restaurants could remain open just fine during lockdown periods. They just should be more responsible to protect all of us to be out gradually.
Kudos to Waterside Market team. They get my utter respect! And, I will visit them more regularly, and I ask you to do the same. Truly, I feel they are part of our...
Read moreWe've eaten here a few times and I felt it was time I write a review since we keep coming back for more.
First off, thank you for being a year-round restaurant! We've enjoyed eating in your restaurant (pre-covid), on the patio (mid-pandemic), and most recently as take-out since it's winter - and we're working remotely from home.
For this visit we ordered take-out lunch which included Billy's Chili, a CAB sandwich, and the Waterside Cobb salad.
I called in my order as I understand some restaurants get charged per order (depending on their contract) for 3rd party ordering systems. The person who answered the phone gladly took my order.
When I asked for the chili, it seems there were two options. I recalled seeing Billy's Chili on the menu so I went with that one. It came with cheese on the chili and a nice-sized piece of cornbread. The chili had an interesting texture - almost like it had a lot of breadcrumbs. I wouldn't say it was bad but just different. Despite that, it tasted great. The cornbread was crumbly and sweet and complimented the chili well.
My dining companion had the CAB sandwich and was quite pleased with it. The bread was fresh and there was a nice amount of chicken.
I had the Cobb salad and was amazed at how much mixed greens there were! The container was filled to the brim with all the right fixings - chicken, bacon, egg, tomato, blue cheese, and avocado with ranch dressing on the side. I poured it all in a big bowl and that's when I realized how much greens were hidden below. It made enough for two servings and, surprisingly, there was enough dressing to dress the entire salad.
The market also has a wide selection of cold and hot drinks as well as prepacked food items such as sauces and seasonings.
If you find yourself in Vineyard Haven craving a quick and tasty breakfast or lunch, give Waterside Market a try. You...
Read moreNice spot to grab a quick bite. Can get crowded during peak times, so there may be limited seating. Also, this is not a sit down and order type of restaurant. You place the order at the counter and then pick it up. I recommend securing your seating first (when you can), if it's crowded. The location is great and the menu is simple but sufficient enough to have something for everyone. They serve breakfast all day. The blueberry pancake is wonderful, and the traditional breakfast is good. I appreciate the nitrate free bacon. I didn't love the sweet potatoes in the breakfast potatoes, but they were okay... Not bad, just not my preference for breakfast potatoes. The food was very fresh, and cooked to order. I appreciate that as well. My husband ordered the BLT with avocado and a fried egg. He really enjoyed it. They also have a nice assortment of baked goods, drinks and coffee. The iced latte was delicious and refreshing, and the strawberry, dragonfruit juice was light and refreshing as well. The location is pretty central to everything in Vineyard Haven. I was not disappointed in my experience, although I thought it was a sit down and order joint at first. Nonetheless, good food, nice atmosphere, so I would...
