I put off writing this because I don't like to give bad reviews, but I unfortunately had a pretty bad experience at this restaurant over the weekend. Myself and 6 others were on the Vineyard for the day celebrating a bachelorette party and stopped in to grab a low key lunch. Right off the bat we were met with attitude at the door by someone from the waitstaff who coarsely told us to close the door behind us (it was open when we came in?) and then asked how many and walked away. We stood there wondering if we were supposed to follow or wait. Someone did come back and showed us to our table. The server we had seemed to be inconvenienced by us, was unfriendly and short with us throughout our meal, and took a very long time in between visiting our table. We had someone in our party with a gluten intolerance and she was pleased to see that there were gluten free options. When her food arrived she took a small bite of her sandwich and quickly realized the bun was not the gluten free bun she had requested. When she questioned whether this was a GF free bun to the server, our server laughed about it and then said, oh no, I guess it's not and took it back to the kitchen. Our server also didn't notify 2 gals who ordered the martini from the Specials menu that they wouldn't include the cajun cream cheese stuffed olives (the selling point of the martini) only after bringing them to the table (we were also charged the specials price for them). Now, I get that on first glance people might have thought we'd be a handful, but we're a group of mid thirties ladies looking to grab lunch, we weren't being loud or obnoxious ordering shots wearing penis necklaces or anything.
I also get the burnout of working in a highly trafficked and tourist heavy location, I grew up on the Cape and served many many years in the service industry but treating your customers this way was really disappointing to see.
The food was fine, the views were beautiful but the...
Read moreThis was my first time going to the Black Dog Tavern although I had been to the Vineyard multiple times over the years as my mother retired there. I must say that sitting up against the windows with the ferry landing harbor just yards away was a real treat - even on a chilly and overcast day without the sun beaming down. The menu was a bit on the pricey side but the food was wonderful. I especially liked the sweet potato fries with my pulled pork sandwich. They were light and delicious and worth their $3 up-charge. Now after a very enjoyable meal, the finish line of the dining experience comes into sight. A bit of a personal info is needed here. With my being a nearly 67 years old male and having multiple errands still to run that afternoon before going home, I thought I should use the washroom before leaving the restaurant. It is a one-bathroom unisex situation so it gets a fair amount of traffic. In a nutshell, the bathroom was a real letdown. The old toilet seat with rusted screws should have been replaced months, if not years, ago; the dark floor could have been much cleaner; and the automatic soap dispenser could have been filled with soap instead of being empty with the refill-needed indicator light flashing on. I ended up using the available hand sanitizer instead of soap to clean up. I was so pleased when the automatic paper towel dispenser worked. C'mon Black Dog, your logo is seen on clothing coast to coast. You've been around for decades and are a staple of the MV experience. The Ohio Turnpike service stations' many washrooms should have nothing on your restaurant's 1 washroom, but very disappointingly, yours does not even come close to measuring up. Hence the missing star from a perfect score... and it happened at the...
Read moreService was terrible. Had the same waitress as last year, who gave me and my mom a hard time. She was rude to us, didn't even care to look friendly and when we ordered clam chowder, she deliberately lied to us telling us that they didn't have any. 10 minutes or so went by and I saw another server coming out with clam chowder in their hand, and hands it off to another table. we confronted the waitress about it and she then decided to tell us they had to "warm" it up.....fast forward to this year. We got her again as a waitress but my mom wanted to request a different one because we didn't want to have another bad experience. when we asked, the waitress gave us such a bad attitude over simply requesting. my mom repeated her words over and over again to speak to a manager. the waitress said "I didn't anything to you yet". Which may be true, but it didn't matter. my still repeating her words, the waitress then further says "no you may not speak to the manager." Now that was rude. she finally got the manager and my mom spoke to him. we had to switch tables in order to have another server........ who wasn't all that great either. wasn't really that friendly, didn't even care to check up on us to see if the food was good or if we needed anything else.
The burger I got.... WAS DRY as anything. the sauce didn't help with it. I will not waste my time, or money on a place who hires waiters/waitress that...
