Big Boy Dining OutBig Boy Dining Out
Bravo Taco 1250 Garden St., Titusville, FL 32780 3.5 Stars Cruising up to Titusville in the Big Boy Mobile made me remember why I actually do like living here, regardless of the foodie scene, or lack thereof. I do love the ocean. Today, my random name generator directed me to Bravo Taco in Titusville. They have an interesting story that I will get into after the food. A-aron (iykyk) was the counter help for my excursion into this offering of Tex-Mex on the Space Coast. A-aron was engaging, professional and invaluable with his menu knowledge. The New Streak stands at 2! Can we break the current record of 12 consecutive fantastic servers? Only time will tell. Now, back to the job at hand. I asked The Ardent One for one of their Shredded Beef Burritos and one of their new specials, the Bravo Double Crunch Supreme. While waiting for my order, I snapped a few photos of the interior. It was clean, bright and cheery. I really like the outside of the building. The colors are bright, vibrant and inviting. It wasn't long before my order was up, and I retreated to a table and got to work. First up on the Big Boy's reputable palate was the Shredded Beef Burrito. This extensive offering was wrapped in a 13” flour tortilla and packed with shredded beef, rice, beans, lettuce, tomato, onion, cheddar jack, corn, jalapenos and sour cream. The meat was well seasoned and quite enjoyable. All the other ingredients, except for the corn, seemed fresh and were extremely tasty, with just enough jalapenos to give it a nice kick. Next, I turned my attention to the Bravo Double Crunch Supreme. This was touted as a new special added to their menu. I guess management went to Taco Bell and liked their Crunch Wrap? This fun sandwich was packed with beef, beans, Bravo red sauce, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, jalapenos and sour cream. The ingredients are sandwiched between two tostadas, wrapped in a 13” flour tortilla and then grilled. This was far superior to the Taco Bell crud that seems to be at the top of the Mexican food chain in these here parts. Why, I will never know, as it sucks and has nothing in common with Mexican food other than the names of the dishes and some of the ingredients. While driving up here, I passed Shiloh's, which may be the worst north end food joint, and they were packed. Bravo Taco is owned by the same group that owns Third Culture Kitchen and Vine & Olive. These are both 4-star eateries that, if placed anywhere except the Space Coast, would show 5-star skills to people who could appreciate it. However, here? Meh, again, people think Taco Bell is the top of the mountain when it comes to Mexican food. The Big Boy says, “This is the best Tex-Mex in Titusville. However, that ain't saying much due to a lack of competition.”

This is exactly what it's all about. My wife was driving through the area, and stopped at Bravo Taco. Tells me how good it was and all. But my wife is from Italy, she's never been west of Florida, she has no idea what constitutes good Mexican food. I didn't believe her. A month later we're in the area, and she takes me to her 'favorite taco shop'. You know what? She was right. I knew it before I ate a bite, the smell of the food wafting out of the kitchen was amazing. We tried a bunch of things. Tacos, quesadilla, Mexican pizza, beans, rice, chips, and dessert. We had a handmade Choco taco, with Fruity Pebbles, and a Churro Sunday. Dude. All of it was great. It's a tiny place, nothing fancy at all. Google always asks if a place is 'cozy', and the answer here is no. The interior is ehhh. You can see it's a work in progress, I think. There's a cool mural on the wall, and a nice taco sign. It's just lacking anything to make it really pop. There is an outside dining area in a weird location to the entrance, you might not realize it's there at all depending on where you park. We had the entrees inside and the dessert outside. The staff were cool, all smiles and friendliness. They were all doing something, staying busy. It was a good vibe from them. There was a sign that mentioned the inspiration for the restaurant was the loss of a friend. Proceeds from hot sauce sales would go towards a Leukemia and Lymphoma fund. Very nice. To go with that, there is a hot sauce station, where you can sample all their different flavors. Hot sauce isn't my thing, but I tried a couple anyway, and I thought they were good. The Cherry Habanero was especially delicious. They all seemed hotter than I'm capable of though. The highlight of my visit then was when a homeless guy wandered in, and asked the lady at the counter if he could have a sample of the hot sauce someone else had left sitting. She nodded in the affirmative, he downed it like it was a shot of whiskey, then immediately regretted his decision as he stumbled up to the counter to ask for water. I had dinner, and a show. Anyway, I really liked this place. It will now become part of our regular road trips, whenever we get through this area I'll be demanding a stop at Bravo Taco.

I visit family in Titusville several times a year. It's my hometown. I was thrilled to see the vegan menu because there are so few vegan options in restaurants there. We stopped in Friday night. The restaurant was not too busy and we ordered from the self-serve terminal. They have wine and beer options and slushy drinks with or without alcohol. We placed our order and waited at a table. The order ended up taking longer than we expected (they appeared to have a couple of large orders called in ahead of us), so we opted for to-go instead because we wanted to see the Falcon9 launch that night. We got our order after about 25 minutes. I like the appearance; everything looked clean. There is indoor and outdoor seating available. There is a self-serve hot sauce bar. I think they have a good selection including the vegan menu (note that the vegan menu does not show on the overhead menu, only at the terminal). The prices are reasonable. The food was tasty. We'll definitely be back to try more. The only issue I had was with the wait and I hope they get that worked out in the near future.

I went to Bravo Taco on Garden Street in T’ville today for lunch. Quick review? First of all, I am a hard critic to please. I liked it and will go back. You should give it a try. Detailed review: This is in the old (but still new) Bagel 13 location. It appears all orders must be done on a large touch screen by the customer. Since the restaurant is new and almost all the customers are new, everyone was taking too long to figure this out. I’m sure next time will be much easier. The wait staff were attentive, cheerful, polite, and respectful. I ordered a Mexican Pizza (2 crispy flour tortillas topped with refired(sic) beans, red sauce, meat, tomato, cheddar jack, jalapenos & sour cream. Served with chips & salsa) and a “large” Arnold Palmer. They have two sizes, Large, about 16 oz and Huge, much bigger. It took 14 minutes for my order to come out. Too long but it is a new restaurant, very crowded and at noon rush hour. In that time, due to some confusion, my drink was brought to me three times. Of course, I only kept one. This meal cost 13.99. I think this is too much, but everything costs too much in 2023. I got my order to go. The drive back to my office is three minutes, maybe another two to walk in from the parking lot. When I opened the box, I found that the “2 crispy flour tortillas” were so soggy that they were actually hard to find in all the toppings. I suspect the food was prepared and then sat for a few minutes before coming out. I definitely had to use the fork and knife that came with it. Like all Tex-Mex food sold in T’ville, the seasonings are timid at best. On the other hand, the side order of chips and salsa was really quite good. Not El-Leoncito good, but very good. I recommend that you give Bravo Taco a try. I will go back. I believe they are locally owned so that is good. Hopefully they will get their “new restaurant” growing pains under control and become a...
