We went on the bioluminescence tour on 8/6/25 in Cocoa Beach. It was underwhelming at best. When we arrived, check ins were being handled by a gang of twenty somethings. This would be fine, but they seemed pretty disorganized and it took longer than it should have to check in. Getting our gear and getting the boats launched took longer than it should have as well and we got started about twenty minutes late. Our tour guide was Gabe and he got started off right at the beginning complaining that there wasn't enough help and he was having to do too much on his own. Once he got started he never took a breath during the entire tour. Now, I love having a good guide and they should be talking and sharing interesting information during a guided tour. Sadly, Gabe had little of interest to offer. He started by telling us not to expect much and he wasn't going to offer any guarantees that we would see anything. Fine, I get it, mother nature is mother nature and you'll see what you see, but Gabe's approach was way off. He next berated one of the girls on the tour because she inadvertently indicated she had kayaked before, but had not. He pushed hard on it in front of everyone asking her to justify why she would say she had kayaked before if she hadn't. I don't know this girl, but that is no way to talk to someone that is your client. He was also happy share stories about other folks on other tours that had done things he thought were "stupid", which I think is unprofessional and uncalled for. The location of the tour was not good because of too many bright lights on the shore. We paddled down under a bridge to get out of the light which was a little better but it was crowded and there was a bad echo, so if Gabe had finally started to share anything interesting we couldn't hear him. On the way back to our launch point, Gabe went in to full throttle useless chatter about his last job that didn't pay enough, how he was afraid of water, how sharks almost got his hand, how his guide job was better because he didn't have to do much, how he'd get in trouble if he got us back late, and on and on with the Gabe self therapy session. By the end of the tour my wife and I and several other folks on the tour just wanted him to zip it. So we started late and got back early, yippee! And to wrap it all up, I've got several years of kayaking experience and have used many different types of kayaks and the clear see-through kayaks are the single most uncomfortable kayak I have ever been in. So to sum up, uncomfortable kayak, poor location, very little visible bioluminescence, and a guide we wished would just shut up made for a complete waste of time and money. Would not recommend...
Read moreWe did the tour in Cocoa beach. It was an ok experience. My family has experience kayaking & own kayaks, however kayaking at night in an unfamiliar place made it difficult for my teenage girls. Alex was wonderful & towed the girls out to the main area. There were 5 other kayaks & it was obvious the other guide “N” was new or not very experienced. (Yes I remember his name but I am not the kind of person to embarrass someone publicly.) I watched 2 kayaks get left behind & 2 others paddle into the trees. I had to holler at “N” to let him know what was happening. He was also trying to tell us a story about the mangroves & couldn’t even remember what they were called… once we got to the main area the 2 guides got out & asked if anyone wanted to swim & see the bioluminescence. Yes the water lit up but nothing like the pictures on the website. We even checked the moonphase calendar to make sure it was a good time to go. Anyways at that point my husband & one of my daughters switched kayaks since the girls were struggling. After that, “N” suggested a race back to the shore. I heard Alex on the radio telling him not to do it but he did it anyways. That was a disaster as you can’t see the light on the guides life vests from the back. My husband & daughter were the first ones back to shore beating “N” & then he turned around to come find me & our other daughter. I got turned around because I forgot we went around an island. The entry/exit point is not lit up & was very difficult to find on our own. We were supposed to be back at shore by 1030pm, we didn’t make it back until 1130pm! I WOULD NOT do this again unless I knew that BOTH guides had plenty of experience. Like I said Alex was amazing & we tipped him because he took care of the girls when they were struggling. It was obvious this was just a summer gig for “N”. The company should have done better & made sure this team only had 4 kayaks since one of them was not adequately trained. Truthfully despite experience the standard should be 2 kayaks per guide. We should have had a 3rd guide that night & we probably would have had a better experience. It was not worth $320 for a family of 4. $200 sure...
Read moreI have been on 4 different bioluminescent trips but this was the first one that my wife and kids have been on. I just have to say that Jungle Jay did an absolutely amazing job explaining all of the plants birds and fish and highlighting so many different things in nature. His calm kind demeanor and wealth of knowledge just made this trip better than any I've been on. With this being a trip through nature I went into it with the mindset that maybe we would end up with some bright bioluminescence and maybe not. Having been on some others where it just was a rough night or day beforehand so that it wasn't quite that bright but we were very fortunate that we got out there at a perfect time where the bioluminescence was incredibly bright and we saw lots of combjelly on a moonless night with beautiful stars and even saw a bunch of shooting stars just as we were starting to head back an almost full waning gibeous Moon started to appear on the horizon and a dolphin started jumping just beyond our boats we couldn't have planned out a better night the day leading up to it was ¹just as all inspiring getting to see manatees during The Mating Season and seeing so many of them they some what came up to us so there was no need for us to approach them but they kept a safe distance that we could see them without being too close I highly suggest you go into this trip with an open mind knowing that you are going out into nature and then just be pleasantly surprised with whatever you come across wear long pants and long sleeves with some strong bug spray. I feel very fortunate that we saw as much as we did because having been on many others I know that at times it can be disappointing but the location and professionalism of jungle Jayand BK Adventures it's just outstanding on all levels and I cannot recommend...
