Today me and my mom decided to visit Bajah’s cat cafe. To say that i am disturbed and concerned is an understatement. As time went on when we were in the cat room me and my mother slowly started to notice a pattern among all of the cats, most of them had runny noses, were sneezing constantly, had dripping eyes, and labored breathing. This caught our attention and we both became extremely worried for the cats living here and we noticed one cat in particular that had all of these symptoms. It was hiding in the cat tree in the far corner. As I looked closer this cat was obviously suffering, it was twitching and constantly had its eyes closed as if it couldn’t even open them. Every time it tried to take a breath a snot bubble would appear out of its nose. Seeing a cat in this bad of condition broke my heart especially after looking in the guide book of all the cats to find out that this cat was eight years old and in the shelter photo looked happy and healthy with eyes full of enthusiasm. At this point our time in the room was nearly up so after our experience my mother inquired about this cat and its health to a worker at the front. The worker told us that the cat simply had a cold but didn’t know much more about the details and referred us to the owner that was just across the room to answer our questions. My mom addressed this same issue with the owner and the response was that the cat was sick with an upper respiratory infection. My mother then brought up all of the other cats with the scattered symptoms across the room to which the owner replied in an extremely rude tone talking to my mother as if she was a child, “Yeah there’s a cold going around the cat room, the infection is just as if me and you had a cold” My mother was still expressing her worry about what the treatment was for these cats and how they were all being taken care of. The owner kept rudely raising her voice at us telling us that she was taking care of it never specifying how they were being treated. The situation was obviously making her extremely escalated so we left immediately after this interaction. I was thinking to myself that if there is a cold going around the room why not initially take the cat that is sick to your home and treat it there instead of keeping the cat in a small room with other cats that are from the ages of two all the way to SIXTEEN. A respiratory infection on an older cat could be fatal. These poor cats looked like they were suffering!!! Upon getting into our car i took it upon myself to take a look at the reviews. All of these reviews mention how the cats seem uncomfortable and scared (very true) and how the owner is ill-mannered. (also very true) There were also many reviews about the adoption process of this cafe which me and my mother witnessed briefly. During our time in the room there was a father and his daughter in there as well. The father tried to talk to one of the workers about adoption and the worker almost dismissed the idea and told him “A cat hasn’t been adopted here in a while, the process is very long” One review on this cafe stated that the owner once said that she cant have all of these cats adopted all the time or else they would “go out of business” while I didn’t experience that firsthand and is hearsay, I wouldn’t think that is far from the truth at all. This woman obviously only cares about money that this cafe is bringing in and seems to not care about the wellbeing of her cats. I always tread lightly when assuming something about the behind the scenes of a business or even just day to day people as I consider myself open-minded, but after witnessing this firsthand I wouldn’t go very far from calling what this cafe is doing abuse. The cats were adorable and precious and deserve a better home than this. This establishment disgusts me and the owner should be ashamed of herself. DO NOT SUPPORT...
Read moreI am a 48 year old woman. This is my second review in my whole life. It is with great sadness I leave this business with a 1 star. I came to visit this café on 6 November. My senior cat had died three days earlier, and had lived 15 years. 2 1/2 years previous to his death I had a young cat who died unexpectedly. I had promised my six-year-old at the time that when our senior cat died, we would adopt two kittens. My senior cat never took a liking to the younger cat, so I figured I would adopt two kittens at the same time so that they would love each other and be comfortable. I visited this café on November 6. It was the second time I had been there. I paid $25 for an hour visit for me and my child. I met with a woman named Mel. I told her I was looking to adopt two young kittens, and was very emotional as I spoke to her about losing my cat a few days prior. Mel Took it upon herself to tell me there would be two new kittens coming into the café and showed me a picture of them that I took a screenshot of. Their names was Lucky and Chance. Ironically, one of them looked like my cat that had just passed away, and the other one looked like my tabby cat that was young that passed away. My daughter had even said as we were getting into the car to head there that maybe we would get “lucky”. This felt like it was God sent. I was dripping with excitement when she told me to fill an application out. she then told me that they were getting fixed that the very next day and that the hospital kept an eye on them for 4 to 5 days. She told me that usually adoptions take three weeks, but she seen them take a one week minimum at times. I went home and ordered two new cat carriers, my little one drew a picture of Lucky and Chance. she told me that once she got word that they were coming that she would send me a text message and not even put them on the floor. She told me the owner was her cousin. As far as I knew I was waiting for a call back to pick up these adorable kittens. I hadn’t heard from her for a whole week so I decided to call the café. Mel wasn’t available to speak so I left my name and number and wanted an update. Five days went by and I still hadn’t heard from Mel. I called back the café and again asked for Mel for an update on these adorable kittens. It took her another two days to call me back on a Sunday at 3 o’clock. She left a voice message but hadn’t left an update and told me that I shouldn’t call the café that she could get in trouble.!! Really? Is something shady being done here? I knew it wasn’t their normal process as far as filling out an application early but get in trouble? I called her back on a Monday on her private cell and again missed her call. I never talked to her in person. On Thanksgiving morning, a friend of mine, who follows them on Facebook told me that Chance had broke a bone. Is this why there was no update? At this point, I just do not understand Why she’s not calling me back. A week after that…….I found out that Chance died. Again, I found this out from a friend who follows them on Facebook. I am so disheartened and disappointed that this girl built me up and then never even had the courtesy to call me up to let me know what was going on. Now that’s some bad communication and bad business. Needless to say I adopted 2 Beautiful kittens at the Providence animal shelter almost a month later. I am grateful for that and am still waiting for a phone call. I WONT HOLD MY BREATH. Bad business Baja’s Cat Café. Apparently, some other people have left some reviews on...
Read moreMY DREAMS CAME TRUE!!! About a month ago I came to the cafe & cat room for the first time. I have wanted for many years to visit a cat cafe, but I had not had a prior opportunity. My 3 visits to Bajah's over the past month have been wonderful!!! During the first 2 visits I interacted with the cats. Several were sleeping while I was there, but there was one cat in particular, who I was instantly drawn to. I knew immediately that she was a sweetheart and that I wanted to adopt her. I came back to the cafe a week after my first visit to observe her again, and she was just as sweet as she was the week prior. That same day (2nd visit) I submitted an application for Brooke's adoption. The adoption process was seamless. I heard back from the cafe owner within 3 business days with an invitation to adopt 9 yr old Brooke, after she had reviewed and processed my application. The application process is reasonable and fair with a goal of ensuring the cat and its prospective owner and forever home are an appropriate match. We promptly arranged a time for me to pick Brooke up and bring her home within 72 hours of adoption approval. Within 8 minutes of arriving at her forever home, Brooke was enthusiastically playing with toys and was overjoyed! My heart soared and still does every day, because of this positive experience. My interactions with all of the staff and customers at Bajah's has been very positive. The food and drinks (hot organic coffee) I ordered and ate during my visits there were great! The breakfast sandwiches are very tasty and satisfying! The cafe area, cat room, and restrooms are very clean and well designed. All are accessible to persons with physical disabilities (my mom came with me for one visit, and she walks with crutches and a full leg brace, and she found the cafe to be easily accessible). Clearly extraordinary effort and care is taken by the owner and the staff to foster an environment that is comfortable and inviting both for people and cats. They are absolutely passionate about their mission to help cats who need homes and to serve their community, bringing joy to people's lives. Very importantly, the cats are well nourished and cared for here, and it is a safe environment. I'm excited about the social events that the cafe hosts, and I look forward to attending one of them soon. Bajah's has made my dream of finding a perfect feline companion come true!!! There is something for everyone here, even if you are not in a position to adopt a cat. Come take a break from the hustle and bustle of daily life, and feel...
