This review is not an indictment of the people working in the store but rather an indictment of the ownership and upper management. I went in on a Saturday after noon and there was one person working. They were battling shortages of cup sizes as well as various drink ingredients, a malfunctioning drive thru register and a broken ticket printer, forcing them to hand write each drink order. They had to keep up with both the drive thru and the in store customers.
I used to be the store manager of a Biggby, about two years ago. I knew this exact situation well. There is zero support from upper management. Most contact with them is only to be grilled about spending. Spending which is necessary for the store to function. Outside of supply shortages, it was common to run out of items because if you actually ordered the amount you needed for the week, you would be hollered at for over spending.
It was common that I couldn't find enough people to work at peak times. Turnover was high because of the low wages, which also failed to entice any potential new hires. I argued for a higher starting wage and the owner dismissed it immediately.
I could go on about the ridiculous things I faced when I was a a manager. It's clear that nothing has changed in two years. Nothing changed a year ago when the entire Perrysburg store walked out, either. It's also worth mentioning, when I worked there, I made 11 an hour as a store manager. I doubt it has changed much since then.
If anyone bothers to read this, please do not take your frustrations out on the employees of biggby. All problems you see trickle down from the top. I hope everyone working there finds a better job. It truly is not worth it, whatsoever. All biggbys in the Toledo area are owned by Mohammed Shetiah, who also owns many locations in Michigan as well. I would encourage people in Toledo to visit one of our many truly locally owned coffee shops instead of the low quality sugar sludge at Biggby made by the over worked, underpaid, and highly...
Read moreI’ve been to this Biggby around 25 times and every time I tell myself I won’t be back but there are no other coffee shops convenient to my house or job except more Biggbys that are just as bad.
The time it takes to get a coffee is unacceptable. It can take ten minutes when no one else is in the store. This location is regularly staffed with just one person, which is both a safety and a staffing issue. It may be quiet a lot but if five people come in at once everyone is screwed, including the barista. No one moves with purpose or demonstrates any sense of urgency. The manager waited until the barista was 6 drinks deep this morning before asking if she needed help. The staff is nice enough, although I recently had a barista make a gagging face when I ordered mint syrup in my drink. From what I’ve seen on Indeed, these people don’t get paid enough to care so I guess I can’t really blame them.
There were no lights on in the customer area this morning, which was really bizarre. I ordered my latte with oat milk and received regular milk. I still drank it because I’m not allergic to dairy but I don’t like regular milk and I sure didn’t pay for regular milk. My husband and I both rolled our eyes. Just another normal...
Read moreWell while driving my kid's mother to work she wanted to swing through the drive thru at biggby to get her morning coffee thing she got a campfire frozen thing. She then said she wanted a large matcha latte plain regular. So we pay and get our drinks.. I take a sip and it tastes like they mixed marshmallow or whipped cream into this matcha latte. So I drop my kid's mom off and head back to biggby to see why my matcha tastes weird. When i made it back there I explained I think they added whipped cream or something to this matcha latte. It isn't just matcha and milk. They explained they use vanilla syrup in theirs. I asked if they can make it without the syrup. They agreed to. So I patiently waited. I got my remade drink and left. I got to my car and realized that they made the milk too hot to hold or even attempt to sip without burning my taste buds off. So I let it cool down. And see a very hot milk in my cup and I drink it when I get to the bottom they apparently did not mix in the matcha powder. I had some very muddy bitter sweet leafy swallows at the end. So what I've learned from this biggby, if you order something don't ask them to remake it or you will end up with a drink even worse than the...
