The worst. Would give zero stars if possible. It's been a few years since I have eaten here, even though it is practically within walking distance and we eat out 2-3 times a week. Now I remember why. The food was absolutely horrible. For starters, the chips were overcooked, unsalted, greasy, and cold. The salsa- no flavor, no heat, no substance, just tomato-y water with chopped cilantro. I ordered the "Special Dinner"; it was special, all right. Especially terrible. There was not one redeeming feature to it, out of 5 different entree options. Everything was covered in an ubiquitous bitter tomato sauce and unseasoned ground beef, from the obviously instanta masa tamale with dry pork (perhaps? It was really indistinguishable...) to the wretched, soggy enchilada, and the sad chile relleno. The "tostada" was a soggy mess of a corn tortilla spread with flavorless beans, soggy brown iceburg lettuce, a thick slice of orange, mealy (with the core, i might add!) Tomato, and topped off with a strangely velveeta-like, artificial tasting shredded cheese. The taco was, again, soggy, flavorless and topped with the shredded iceburg and rubber combination. Even the rice and beans were bad, which is normally my favorite part of good mexican meal. The rice was dry, the beans liquidy, which in and of itself was not the problem. The complete and utter lack of flavor was the real issue. I never write reviews. Never. I was so perturbed by my experience that I felt compelled to do so. I cant even wrap my brain around how this place has so many good reviews. Granted, i am a bit picky when it comes to food- perhaps I, at times, have unreasonable expectations about the quality that is to be delivered. But this was beyond what could possibly be overlooked as a one-off bad menu selection. Everything was equally and ridiculously horrible, from the flavor and texture to the quality. Please, save yourself the time, aggravation, and $.... and just go directly to La Taqueria Michoacan Authentica down on Broadway and Western, where you will get an exponentially better meal for half the...
Read moreWe didn't tell our waiter, the reason we came to the restaurant. It was our daughter for her first time trying spicy authentic Mexican food.
The atmosphere coming from the parking lot allows you to slip away from business and worries of the day. Lively music and an outside patio area. That has a bar, seating, and all the feel of being out of the country.
Water features that work. From my daughter's notes. 😆
Inside doesn't disappoint either. Large dining areas with booths and tables another bar-style seating.
Late nights when it's weekends they have a bar in the basement I do believe. But I wasn't invited. Lol kidding...!
Once we got to the table our service was outstanding. He was able to get our orders asking how our day was going, and suggested which meal to go with, when I was on the fence about two.
Chips and salsa were at the table within a second after our drinks came.
The family was eating the salsa and my daughter was trying all the sauces at the table, so many that the waiter brought over a house-made sauce that put the tables to shame heat-wise my daughter's words.
There were so many options (beef, shrimp, chicken, veggies if a non-carnivore) I'm not going to tell you what I got just go and enjoy.
We went probably right after 1:30 pm because the wife and I ordered from the lunch menu.
Great local and fast and friendly staff.
When we're around that area it's an option. No one is...
Read moreThere is so much to say about El Camino Real. Let me preface this by saying; I lived in San Diego CA for ten years prior to 9/11. Back in the day when you used to be able to go back and forth across San Diego/Tijuana border without practically an ID, 2-3x's a night. In San Diego alone the Mexican food is phenomenal! (We wont even touch on Tijuana) Although SD have Taco Bell & Del Taco, every other Mexican restaurant is authentic. I really don't know how TB & DT survive, I guess they service the people who've migrated from the East coast, out West looking for their Mexican fix. My apologies I digress, So Camino's food is the furthest thing from from authentic, it's the epitome of American/Mexican food, you have to realize it's bad when the tacos aren't good, it goes downhill from there. Most people go for the drinks, which I hear are potent. I'm really not trying to discredit them, I'm just used to authentic Mexican food. In their defense a lot of Mexican restaurants in Toledo aren't authentic, although they love to put that on their signage. The bad; if you need to eat before a night of drinking, go to a restaurant! The good; good place to go for drinks before you head out for the evening dancing & partying... Can't believe I have no...
