Peking Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in Tomah

My husband and I visited tonight and got the special dinner for 17$ each which includes a wheel of treats before the entree. Chicken wings....mandarin beef...wontons...shrimp...chicken foil (saving that for lunch tomorrow) egg rolls. What a fancy appetizer platter that came with a little cauldron of live fire. Excellent presentation! My husband hated the egg rolls. He took one bite and threw it on his plate. They did have a wierd sour fermented taste but I still ate it. The chicken wings are PHENOMENAL. Hot and sour soup and egg drop soup very good! Entrees were kung pao shrimp (mine) and hubby got beef and mixed vegetable. Delicious. Reasonably priced. Food was superb and matched the friendliness of the hostess and the male host. Very impressive service and atmosphere. Place is IMMACULATELY clean. I didn't see one speck of anything anywhere. I honestly don't think I've ever seen a restaurant so clean as this place. Woman's bathroom was amazing...clean..and HUGE! The decor was amazing too. It felt like we're were in China....not that I've ever been. Thank you for a beautiful experience. My FAVE new restaurant. The hostess girl recommended the spring rolls next time. I will also order half sauce on my entree only because I have to watch my sodium and the sauces were very thick but DELICIOUS! 5 stars! Highly recommend. Used to absolutely adore this place. Everything about it is absolutely PERFECT. Except the food, BUT LET ME EXPLAIN. Because the menu has stayed the same.

You ever have a friend who is on court ordered rehab, and they have to take this drug called Anabuse (sic). By itself is totally harmless, BUT if you mix it with ethanol, EVERYBODY around that person KNOWS, because it makes them sick like a dog.

Well, my wife is on a certain class of medications that has this kind of reaction to MSG. I thought she was making this up because the place is kinda expensive, which is okay, and kinda out of our way, but still...

Go forward 8 months. I'm recovering from an E.R visit, and some new meds. She's on a working trip and I just don't feel like cooking on this day that I have to drive to that part of town with this restaraunt.

SHE WAS RIGHT. Sorry hun. I was vendors paying attention, I ordered "the usual," which we both eat at chinese restaurants and not more than 15 minutes later...I know what Anabuse feels like because now I'm taking the same meds as her AND dat stuff don't like MSG.

So, like I said, the menu is the same, BUT...The person doing the purchasing has changed the suppliers of some of the ingredients such that somebody in the kitchen NOW feels the need to use "Flavor...

Update 2022: if i can give zero i would. What a disgusting response from the owner. I only took the dish because of the manager standing on top of my head with her cc machine. She already was huffing about having to explain. ABSOLUTELY GARBAGE PLACE NOW ! LOOK AT OTHER PEOPLE FEEDBACK BEFORE GOING THERE ! I'm Visting the Cranberry fest and I really wanted to go back to this restaurant. The food was horrid. The rice were not fresh. I ordered shrimp fried rice to go I was charged extra $2 ! The price was listed $8.25. When I asked why, I was told because the eggs prices went up. I took the food anyway. I TOLD THEM I WILL NEVER RETURN HERE AGAIN. When I opened my food there were only 4 shrimp in the dish, hardly any egg (egg prices went up) and bowl full of rice ! I was charged $10.25 for bowl full of rice ! I posted the pics below. I don't usually leave a bad review but I over heard other customers in the restaurant complaining about the good as well. Below was my review from 2019 when I first visited here.

2019: Discovered this Chinese restaurant while in a business trip in Wisconsin. Very clean and beautiful setting and atmosphere. Great customer service. Food was just delicious !! Will be back again. A must try...
