Pine Street is a solid restaurant. The food quality is good and portions are fair. However, I want PSE is be exceptional. It's a beautiful location and the fact that it is locally owned is a huge reason I want this place to be better. It could be!! I hate to give 3 stars but truly hope I can change it soon.
We went there after seeing ads in the local paper. I'm always on the lookout for the best breakfast spot. So here goes...
FOOD: Food was wonderful. Husband had biscuits and gravy and they were good. The biscuits are exceptional. They are obvi homemade and kind of a crunchy outer with yummy soft interior!!
The fact that you can take home some awesome pastries on your way out is a huge plus.
Our Mama bear meals were cooked well and served up perfectly.
The Hashbrown casserole was one of the reasons I wanted to go to PSE. It sounded so good and the flavor was in fact really good. The photos show cheesy hashbrowns in (what I thought) a cast iron skillet.
This is where PSE goes off the rails. The mini cast iron skillet which would make the contents hot and scrumptious is actually plastic! As are the serving plates and some of the furnishings.
PSE makes this great food in this great environment and then serves it up on plastic! Please stop! Ceramic serving plates and REAL cast iron minis would make such a difference. The food is deserving of a more substantial plating.
The food seemed to get colder faster and it simply cheapens what could be an exceptional experience. There is a consumer psychology that works against PSE here. I say all this so that the MGMT will consider it. It makes the difference in the long run. If I didn't care, I wouldn't say it. Those same hashbrowns served in a hot mini skillet would be crunchy, gooey and so cheesy good!
I get that it's expensive, but Invest in some real wood tables (as you can) and quality plate wear, ceramic mugs and those great mini skillets! They can become a great brand opportunity. Skillet hashbrowns, brownies, and some of your scrumptious pastries can be morphed to skillet delicacies!
This is a place I would make a regular spot on my breakfast routine if I knew the food was served hot and appropriately plated. Enough on that.
STAFF: The wait staff was great. We were there on a Tuesday am and the crowd was slim.
ATMOSPHERE; Building is super cute in a faux rustic log cabin vibe. Red and black plaid theme is well executed. The large main room is loud and hollow due to the high ceiling and concrete floors. The addition of some flooring or rugs in the common area might help with that. It could be really loud when crowded.
I will definitely try PSE again! I want it to be wonderful. I'm hoping some easy changes can turn...
Read moreTomball, we got a great new breakfast/brunch/dessert place called Pine Street Eats & Sweets . What an awesome place run by a lovely lady named Megan (Formerly of Sweet Revenge Bakery). We met a few friends and tried a bunch of the menu. I got The Papa Bear - Buttermilk Fried Chicken, Bacon, Cheddar Cheese and sour cream sandwiched between savory buttermilk biscuit. Served with your choice of a side. Well if there is Hashbrown casserole on the menu, I got to get it! Fantastic made to order fresh baked biscuits (which take 8 min) and the hashbrown casserole was wonderful. I added an over-easy egg to mine. The chicken is cooked liked someone's Mee-Maw made it, and that's a good thing!
My son got the Mama Bear Breakfast - Your Choice of maple sausage patties it 2 strips of bacon (he got both), two eggs your way (he got scrambled) and 1/2 homade waffle. Kiddo approved.
My friend got the Biscuit & Gravy - 2 Savory Buttermilk Biscuits served with sausage gravy. He added a fried egg on the side. His wife also got the Mama Bear, but with a biscuit instead of a waffle.
My other friend got The Sly Fox - Buttermilk Fried Chicken, cheddar cheese, fried green tomato, and spicy mayo sandwiched between a savory buttermilk biscuit
My healthy friend got the Owl have a Womlette - Build your own with three ingredients and a side. She chose warm cinnamon apples.
The other family we were with and her kids got the Chicken and Waffles - Buttermilk Fried Chicken and homemade Waffles, served with a side of syrup.
I gave Megan and idea, a dish for now we are calling the Tomball Stacker - savory biscuit, hashbrown casserole, sausage patties all topped with cream gravy. She brought one out to taste test, and it was epic! If you ask her nicely, I get she will make it for you 😁
Great atmosphere, in a beautiful log cabin with a lot of natural light and windows with great service. Pine Street Eats is still in soft opening stages, so be patient with them. I have included a menu pic, but it will evolve over time as they figure out their clientel and add it take off menu items. Located across main from BonFire Grill and behind Re:Bar at 107 N Pine St,...
Read moreThis was my first and last time coming to this place, we arrived with two families total was 12. So we knew we were going to have to wait to get seated. We waited about 20-30 minutes. We seen our time to get seated was going to be longer if we decided to sit inside. So we decided to go with their outside tables. Which still needed to be cleaned. While we were waiting, the tables inside became available and we asked if we could still sit inside, one of their waitress seemed to have a problem with that and gave attitude. We had already waited awhile and no other customer came inside looking to be seated. 1. Red flag we should’ve considered to leave. We get seated, first thing out of one of the waitress was to make sure we knew the items on their menu no longer available. No biscuits, no orange juice, and no regular house blend coffee. We were a bit disappointed as their biscuits looked very appetizing. We placed our order, received our order, ate and were content. After a few minutes of being through with our meal, we noticed the table next to us as their order was being brought out, and to our surprise they were being served biscuits. We were just having a conversation about returning to try their biscuits. I was flabbergasted to say the least. 2nd red flag. We mentioned this to our sever and her response “I don’t know where those biscuits came from” we left immediately. Came back to get my receipt and spoke to the owner Megan, she did apologize, and took ownership. Which I do appreciate, but if you were truly owning up to your mistake, at least try and make it right, from the get go. She did offer for us to come back and we would be taken care of but this just left a VERY bad taste in my mouth. I feel bad as a small business owner myself, but to be honest the vibe was we weren’t welcomed. Moral of this review if you feel unwelcome, do yourself a favor and just leave. Update, after the “owner” responded that table that was served the biscuits was there before us. NOT TRUE WE WERE SEATED FIRST!! That is taking ownership and accountability!!! Don’t change the narrative. You purposefully did not want...
