Yummy Pho & Grill — Restaurant in Tomball

We placed a to-go order through Grubhub and went to the restaurant to pick it up. When we arrived, the restaurant claimed they never received our order, even though Grubhub showed it was already being prepared. The employee made no effort to help us or locate the order. He simply said “it wasn’t in their system” and left it at that.

Because Grubhub indicated the restaurant had already started cooking the order, we were not able to cancel it directly and had to contact Grubhub customer service instead. While we were still sitting inside the restaurant, Grubhub support called the restaurant to confirm whether they had received our order. During the first call attempt, the employee was busy taking another order over the phone. We asked the Grubhub rep to wait until he finished, but when they called again after the employee hung up, we watched him deliberately ignore the ringing phone while entering a different order into the system.

We informed the restaurant employee that Grubhub was trying to reach them to verify the situation. He dismissed us with a casual “ok ok,” then again ignored the phone until the last ring, at which point it was too late to answer. Ultimately, Grubhub customer service refunded us, and we left without our food.

I hate writing bad reviews. I want restaurants to succeed though, so I hope the owner reads this and takes it to heart.

I walked in and was hit by the smell of sewer gas, like you’re standing over a manhole cover. There was a customer complaining about their food. Another customer was frustratingly waiting for their to-go order. At least one other customer came in and had to wait 25+ minutes for their order.

We ordered egg rolls, the grilled steak plate, and pork vermicelli bowl.

The egg rolls were served on a single oil-soaked piece of lettuce. No pickled vegetable, no cilantro, and the Nước chấm was very weakly flavored.

The beef plate had some good flavor, but looked unappetizing due to the overcooked steak juices congealing on the plate. There was also a large chunk of eggshell left on the plate. I’m not asking for steakhouse quality here, but this was low-effort.

The vermicelli bowl was served with the same weakly-flavored Nước chấm, no pickled veggies, and no cilantro.

When I paid at the counter, I noticed that the computer and keyboard was covered in dust/grime.

I ordered the BBQ pork banh mi and it was incredibly delicious. The sauce was perfectly proportioned with the rest of the sandwich. The seasoning of the pork was flavorful. The bread was warm and crunchy. This was probably one of the best banh mi’s I’ve ever had. The only reason I dinged this restaurant was because it took an hour, not even joking, for our food to come out. We left and came back and the food was still not ready. It appeared there was only one employee working and while I can understand being short staffed, based on the previous reviews, this appears to be a problem for this establishment. My recommendation, because the food was so incredibly good, would be to place the order over the phone and pick it up later or just pick another restaurant. The employee was nice and did inform us of a 25 minute wait, but had I known I would be waiting an hour, I would have just left. The table where we sat while waiting was sticky, another table still had the food from the previous customers out, and most of the televisions were out of order. The food was fairly priced.
