Blackbird has become a weekly treat for us, perfectly blending the warmth of a local coffee shop, the charm of a laid-back lunch spot, and the relaxation of evening cocktails on the patio.
Whether it's for a morning cup of coffee with a pastry, a leisurely lunch, or an early evening glass of wine, the atmosphere is always vibrant, filled with locals and consistently friendly service.
The food here never disappoints. From hot sandwiches accompanied by their unique house-made pickles to the best pastries around (all made in-house!), every bite is a delight. Their sandwiches come with a choice of sides—chips, potato salad, or grapes. The grapes are a simple touch but a favorite of my grandson!
The patio is a prime spot for people-watching when the weather is nice, adding to the relaxed, welcoming vibe. Despite being in a bustling strip mall, there's always plenty of parking, making it easy to stop by at any time.
You order at the counter and usually pick up your drinks there. If you order food, just grab your drinks at the counter, and they'll deliver the food to your table (inside or out).
A true gem in Topeka, Blackbird nails the balance of quality, comfort, and local charm. A must-visit for anyone in the area or just...
Read moreMy first time at this place. I called in my order for pickup- despite being rather busy, they picked up quickly and were friendly. I ordered a full rueben sandwich and I only had to wait about 5 minutes after getting to the bistro, so in total it took them about 15 minutes to prepare my order... My total for the meal was around $14 including a small tip, ("full" sandwich and side of potato salad.) Which I was told over the phone that its the same price with or without the side. Unfortunately, I only got half of the sandwich, which considering the day i've had, really didn't surprise me, but I was bummed... Considering after tip, I paid almost $14 dollars for a HALF of a sandwich. Over all the food was okay, next time i'll ask for extra sauce. I will say they have the best pickles ever!! I think the service was good, I felt as though they were handling the busy rush well. The atmosphere was very "Central Perk".. very chill and cozy, despite being...
Read moreI had never been here before and wanted to try it this morning with my friend. I walked in and noticed only one customer dining in had on a mask. I walked up to the counter and asked for a menu. While I was looking I briefly pulled down my mask to whisper something to my friend and the barista told me to "please keep my mask on." While I absolutely respect this gesture and certainly did apologize and pulled my mask right back up it didn't make sense as no one that was dining in was eating, nor wearing masks. It felt discriminatory as we were also the only black customers in the cafe.
I actually believe the other white customers sitting by the window didn't have any masks on at all, as they were not eating and didn't have any masks in sight. I could be wrong absolutely, but the attitude prior from this barista seemed brash also when he seemed impatient with us before showing us the menus. I 100% enforce the mask law and will abide, but this...
