SPIN! Pizza — Restaurant in Topeka

Has been one of my favorite places to eat since it opened. I always place a carryout order and it's ready as soon as I get there at my scheduled time. I just walk up to the bar and someone hands it to me and I can get back to work since I generally have to take a short lunch break. It's convenient. But today frustrated me SO much. I stood at the bar for five minutes waiting for someone to notice and no one did, just got completely ignored. Finally, the cashier gave me attitude and said they're short staffed and that I have to get in line behind the eight people in line to order food to pick up my carryout order.. I straight up told them to cancel the order because carryout is supposed to be convenient and I didn't have time to wait any longer than I already had. I called in to make sure they cancelled the order and they said they'd bring it out to me and I should've called in the first place so they could bring it to my car. Sorry- I placed an inside pickup order because it's freezing and I planned on saving them from having to do curbside. Overall, AWFUL service. Will be a while before I go back if I do again. I try to be understanding- but the worst thing is getting ignored when employees pass you multiple times and then telling you that you should be in line to get a CARRYOUT order. Very good food, exemplary service.

Only one issue:

One has to pay beforehand, and I don’t mind that….

…but the payment mechanism/machination/rule is asking for a tip/gratuity BEFORE service.

Like, I see the reviews online, the other customers are happy and the staff are friendly, courteous and attentive and the food does look good….

….but asking for tip BEFORE I even get to even sit down and eat?

I’m not comfortable with that; tipping is awkward enough already.

And yes, I do tip those who serve. I’ve been in a service position before and I know firsthand the stresses and hard work, so I do reward good product and service.

That said….

….I left very satisfied with food, service and ambience….

…said thank you directly to server, host and staff…

….and left what I thought was 18% in cash tucked under the Parmesan cheese shaker.

Again, tipping is an awkward exercise enough. Please don’t make it MORE awkward by asking for a tip first!

And wouldn’t you rather be tipped in cash anyway? That way the taxman can’t touch it and you get to keep more of the tip, no?

Anyways. Delicious food. Tangy sauce, crispy crust and zesty toppings. Soup was excellent and plenty of it. Salad was perfectly done.

If I see a SPIN! pizza in my travels, ill definitely...

2023/23 update: Lately Spin have brought/allowed some personal promotions from the staff into the business. I don't enjoy this, so we do not go there as much if at all. My family really enjoys eating at Spin. 2022 review: Good food, the kids love the gelato. Food is a lot lighter and fresh than most quick casual/upscale casual options. Prices are little bit more than most places in Topeka but the quality of food and quickness is well worth it. The patio seating is nice in the spring and summer. They have a nice beer selection if that is your thing also, I think they have wine also but that isn't our thing. Lots of seating options for small or large groups. Restaurant is always clean and nicely kept. Parking is simple too. Honestly there really isn't much competition for this type of restaurant in Topeka where you can get something that is quick, healthy and classy. The cauliflower pizza crust options are awesome too.
