Myself and a co-worker came in yesterday for lunch during Oshkosh's Restaurant Week - this was my first time at Gabe's. Immediately I loved the overall feel and design of the place, they have done an amazing job with the interior of the building. The remainder of my experience at Gabe's went downhill from there, and forced myself and my co-worker to walk out of your establishment.
I tried to contact management regarding this issue prior to me posting this negative review, but the response was dismissive, lackluster and blamed staffing issues.
When our waitress came to take our order, she went on a long-winded explanation of how we needed to order our entrees first as your POS system wasn't able to add appetizers first and the kitchen "wouldn't know" not to make both appetizer & entrees at the same time...weird, but okay. Our first course was the Deep Fried Green Beans, and my entree was the BBQ Pulled Pork sandwich (I requested coleslaw on the side).
The green beans came out a few minutes before the entree (honestly, the appetizer should come well before the entree, not essentially the same time) and they were unbreaded, soggy, still had the stems on and had a brownish/black color upon arrival. They had a foul smell to them as well, so when the waitress eventually came back to bring our entrees out we let her know that we needed a new set of green beans.
While we were waiting for the waitress to return, I lifted the top of the bun of my pulled pork sandwich and saw that it was covered in coleslaw (instead of on the side as I requested) and the french fries were so undercooked to the point they were limp and soggy.
The waitress came back a few minutes later with the SAME green beans from before, except the cook slapped some batter on them and put them back in the fryer. This was obviously disgusting and unappetizing on many levels. When we noticed this was the case, we told the waitress about the issue and she came back with, "I am not the one cooking in the kitchen," which after the issues with all of the food we received was the last straw.
We gathered our belongings and made for the door, and told a different waitress we were leaving because of poor food and worse service. She told us "I hope your day gets better" instead of involving management.

Read morePoor food and even worse service. I actually went last week for Restaurant Week and was very impressed. I came back today to have the same food that I ate last week because I enjoyed it so much and now I wish I hadn't told so many people since last week how good it was. Our appetizer of deep fried green beans came out with no breading and they were black and soggy. I am a waitress and I NEVER would have served them as they were. I explained to the waitress that last week I had eaten them and they were breaded and delicious. She begrudgingly took them back to the kitchen. 2 minutes after we were served our appetizers, our entrees came out, incorrectly I may add. The "fries" were raw potatoes cut into strips, they put the wrong sauce on my wrap and the sandwich my friend ordered was completely wrong. Then, here came our green beans again. And I stress the again because they were clearly the same soggy, burnt beans put in some batter and re-fried. They still had the stems on them for God's sake. When we pointed out that our entrees were wrong and I asked not to be served the same green beans again, the waitress told us "I'm not the one cooking in the kitchen!" and stormed off. At this point, you would think someone would have a manager come speak to us, but nothing happened. We finally got up, told one of the other waitresses what happened and that we wanted to leave, and instead of her getting a manager, she just told us to "have a better day" and let us walk out. This was a night and day experience to what I had last week but unfortunately this one is the one that will stick out and I won't be back. There was no management presence anywhere to sort out issues, the waitstaff clearly didn't care and either the cook staff is undertrained or just plain don't care about what the food looks like when it comes out. We left disgusted and hungry so save your time and go somewhere else in the...
Read more1st time here and we were very pleased with everything. We were a little concerned that it would be very busy because the parking lot was pretty full. Thankfully, it wasn't very busy as the restaurant is in a strip mall and the majority of cars was for the other businesses. On to the food... had the beer can pulled chicken sandwich and my wife had the shrimp tacos. They advertise using Sheboygan hard rolls and me growing up in Sheboygan had me intrigued, so I asked where in Sheboygan they get them from. The thing is, there is nothing like a good Sheboygan hard roll. I don't know what it is, but buns made anywhere else, even in Wisconsin, they just do not come close to a Sheboygan hard roll. The waitress had to ask the owner where he gets them and he said, Johnson's Bakery. I grew up eating their bakery and they have some of the best in Sheboygan, hands down. The chicken was awesome... very flavorful and piled on the bun high! No fat or tough pieces either, just damn good quality. The shrimp tacos were equally as good. Corn tortillas with a quac cup, lots of shrimp and seasoned perfectly... yummy slaw too. Had a few different cocktails...Gabe's old fashioned, mojito, and appletini. All made perfectly! The decor is simple and sleek...lit sparingly but adequately. There is a great bar area that is well stocked with an awesome beer selection too. Many choices. The staff is very friendly and it didn't take long at all to receive our food. We are very impressed with this new restaurant and will be visiting them often! Do yourself a favor and...
