Learn moreI love yummy! I'm kind of surprised at the quality of the food they make seeing as they have so much stuff on their menu. It can range anywhere from your typical Chinese take out to some mind blowing dish you never even heard off that tastes delicious.
I am what they would call a regular, so much so in fact, that everyone knows me by name at this point. The waitresses knows that my little girl loves to copy her mom and so they'll pack an extra bubble tea cup filled with water for her to use the big straw with. It's quite nice to have that little extra attention to detail, and I love coming here each time. I have introduced numerous people to yummy and guided them through the whole hot pot experience. If you go on the weekend or during dinner time, it can get quite busy. The wait staff won't be able to walk you through everything and you won't enjoy the wait.
If this is your first time, here is a quick run down to help out.
Pick your broth. The chicken, beef and healthy broth are what I call the average/safe tier. They are for people who aren't very adventurous and just dipping their toes into the whole hot pot experience. I like to eat spicy so my recommendations are the Kim Chi or Tom Yum to give it a little more flavor. Pick your meat. They freeze all their meats and then slice them very thin so that they will cook in a timely manner. I like the beef, but there is a wide variety, including seafood. Certain broths work better with certain meats. If you're feeling adventurous, try the pig's blood. It's not as bad as it sounds. If you have ever eaten chicken liver, then you'll be familiar with the texture/flavor. Pick your noodle. Hot pot noodle is just ramen noodle. Pick your veggies and any additional things you want to throw into the pot. I recommend the fish tofu, it's surprisingly good. After you order, head over to the sauce bar and make yourself a dipping sauce. Once everything arrives, crank up the hot plates at your table to 5 and let the broth come to a boil (the servers will do this for you if you don't know how). Dump everything you want to eat in, but make sure to portion it out. If you dump everything you ordered in at once, it will overflow and get soggy over time as you can't eat it all at once. The best way to do this is to portion out what you will eat first. Put in a little bit of meat, noodle, veggies and whatever else. Let it come to a boil, scoop everything out and add the next batch. Start eating the batch you just scooped out and repeat until you have no more food or can not physically move due to food coma.
Another good tip is to try their Thai Bubble tea. Unlike the other bubble teas, it is freshly brewed each day and not made from powdered flavorings. My wife finds that it can be a little bit too sweet and will add extra cream to cut some of the sweetness. It's her go to drink, and I'm sure you'll love it too once you try it.
The last recommendation is the pho is actually very good. It's quite flavorful and extra large bowl is as big as your head. I love to go here on a cold and rainy day, it's what I call perfect hot...
Read moreThis place seems like it depends on who's doing the cooking, u might enjoy ur food? The sesame chicken on a bed of rice with broccoli was always delicious, when my daughter grab some for lunch(this past summer)but then she just got dinner from there tonight 12/13/24, her sesame chicken and sweet & sour chicken, were both fried so hard that the sauces they come with/in, didn't even help make them less crispy. The employee she talked to, explained what he thought the problem was? The cook had over-fried the food, but still acted as if there was nothing they could or would do to make it right? Basically, it was like "Oh well, that was our fault but make sure u come on back!" type of attitude. She just hung up on him after realizing that he wasn't going to offer a refund or a fresh new order for those items.
I don't believe in the "Customer's Always Right" crap, because that's entitlement so many ppl don't deserve, due to how horrible some folks behave when they walk into an establishment? It is however, a contract(IMO)where if u pay for something, u should be 100% satisfied? It's terrible business when after they get their payment(if u have any reasonable complaints)suddenly it's "That's just too bad if u aren't happy?" type of disposition? That's an unprofessional service if I've ever known one to be, and sadly, here in the city of Rochester, u should consider urself blessed if u choose any establishment where there are no complaints or especially, rude employees?
Every restaurant in the inner city/suburbs, should count there blessings that most customers haven't received or know about the massive list of food locations, who have long lists of current violations on their property? Ppl would be surprised to know that a lot of these locations are not from the inner city? Tbh, I haven't seen this establishment on there but for ur own safety it doesn't hurt to look into that list because a lot of places aren't storing or cooking food at the right temps, they're not keeping everything sanitized and most places have insects and mice problems. I repeat, this business is NOT on the list. They just need better customer...
Read moreI would like to preface my review by saying that the food is and always has been SPECTACULAR. The Kimchi Pot is my favorite broth hands down, but I have never had anything here that was less than delicious.
The first issue is how the restaurant is currently priced and run. I went with my family for the first time since the pandemic and the ordering and pricing structure has completely changed. At first we were extremely pleased with the buffet items to put in the soup as opposed to the pre-made plates that used to be served.
We would normally go as a family of 3, order all the meats, rice, noodles, etc that we wanted, pay approximately $80 plus tip and we were able to take our leftovers home.
Now because of the buffet that has noodles, eggs, veggies, I was no longer able to take home my leftovers. I had a pot of just broth that I wanted to take home and was told that I had to pay $10 if I wanted to take home the broth that I PAID FOR. So instead of being able to leave with a good experience and leftovers to enjoy, I left sad, not just that I had to leave the food, but knowing it just went to waste.
We spent far more money because of price increases for even the broth and could not take home the meat and broth that we paid for. I understand not being able to take buffet items home, but my broth?!
Additionally, there is a major issue with food cross contamination on the buffet. There were at least 20 different items to select from, many containing gluten and/or seafood, but there were only 4 sets of tongs to obtain the items with. Anyone with a food intolerance would become very sick.
Normally I tip AT LEAST 20%, but I was very put off that there was a mandatory 15% gratuity added to our check. To me, that is a sign that the service has not been good or that people have been so upset that they can’t bring their leftovers home.
Needless to say, I will not be eating in the restaurant in the foreseeable future....but I...
