We love to try new breakfast places and support new businesses. Such a disappointment especially after reading all the 5 star reviews and Facebook posts, which must be from owner friends. I gave this place a 3 star because it does have a cute ambiance and I didn't get sick like I often do after eating at Jackie's.
Anyways, this place is supposed to be somewhat upscale (implied through the decor) yet you're immediately handed plastic lunch truck utensils to eat with. Additionally you're handed empty paper to-go cups for your coffee instead of real mugs. No placemats to speak of and an obvious sticky feel to the tables. All this cheapens the feel right out of the gate ruining the ambiance its supposed to be building.
When you go up to the coffee bar for your self serve coffee its supposed to be fancy with words chalked on slate in front of the different coffee air-pots, except its so sloppy you can't make it out, leading to confusion as to what exactly is in each. Its not just me, I noticed several others go up, obviously confused, taking some time to figure out the situation, which is not exactly the flow you want in a smaller place.
Didn't spend too much time looking at the lunch menu as I was there for breakfast, but for all the words on the page, the breakfast menu basically only had 2 things, a breakfast sandwich and a breakfast burrito. Sure you could order a side of home fries, or a muffin from the counter, but that was basically it. For real? Stewarts basically has the same menu.
We ordered a couple of breakfast sandwiches which took 45 minutes to get to the table. We almost contemplated walking out and going down the street. Watching at the grill it was like they were taking their sweet time staring into space, not slinging bacon and hash (if they offered hash) at the rate you'd expect of a normal short order cook. When we did get the sandwiches they were so tasteless, can't believe how much salt and ketchup we had to add to get any kind of flavor, which you'd expect at least some from the cheese or bacon. I'm not sure what they're doing over at the grill.
At the end no check presented to see what was charged, just told to go up front to be rung up. The prices seemed high for what we ordered and what you got. I expect a little higher prices for an upscale place but not for plastic forks, tasteless food, and a 45 minute wait for a 5 min sandwich. Purdy did so much more with less when she was in there. Anyways we'll stick to the normal breakfast haunts where we can quickly get fed a decent meal without breaking the bank, especially in this economy. Maybe we'll consider retrying in a year to see if any the kinks are worked out, ...that is if they can keep...

Read moreWhat a great cafe. We love the history, location, hospitality, friendliness, music, coffee and the food! The building is ever so charming. The decor is adorable. The location next to the creek is so endearing! But the music was amazing! Our waitress Kim was so sweet! I wish we lived nearby so we could visit more often. The coffee bar is unique and inviting! The food was so good! So glad we found this hidden gem. All the patrons eating with us in the porch were so friendly. We chatted to each other across the tables. We were delighted to walk there thru the town from the Broadalbin Hotel. I would recommend this restaurant for breakfast...
