My fiancé and I stopped in this place because it was the closest coffee shop to the house we had recently moved into. How disappointing that the environment was so unwelcoming. I was immediately hit by the rather aggressive Christian messaging from the contemporary worship music on the speakers as well as the decor. To be clear, I grew up going to church and I have no problem shopping at church sales and things like that, and contemporary Christian music (while it isn't my taste) normally doesn't make me feel unwelcome, but something about this felt forced, as if the establishment was supposed to feel welcoming only to a very specific demographic. Nonetheless, I told myself to suspend my judgment, that maybe the owner was a nice person who just happened to be very religious. We ordered lattes and paninis with an older woman (presumably the owner) who seemed kind of cold right off the bat, but I gave her the benefit of the doubt and guessed that maybe she was just busy (kind of hard to believe, though, because the place was empty). While waiting, I went to the bathroom, where I was disturbed to see anti-abortion and anti-vaccine pamphlets all over the walls while I was just trying to relieve myself. Upon exiting, I noticed a signed portrait of Donald Trump that I can only describe as a shrine, which I didn't say anything about but squinted at, taking in the sight. The woman said to me in the rudest way possible, "Can I help you???" Feeling super uncomfortable, I replied, "Haha, no, I'm okay," and took my food outside as fast as I could. While my fiancé and I were sitting at one of the tables outside, the woman was obviously making a point to scrub the windows right by where we were sitting and throw us occasional glares. Hands down, the rudest treatment I have ever gotten in a restaurant. While the food was okay, we were so put off by how we were treated that we ended up throwing most of it in the trash and leaving, because who wants to be glared at? All we did was come in and order food like normal people, but maybe we gave off the wrong "vibe" somehow. Maybe the owner is nice to some people, but someone who is nice to you but rude to others is not a...
Read moreThe espresso was excellent. The breakfast sandwich was also very good. I always try to support the local coffee shops on my travels. They are becoming more scarce as the chain takes over. I'm hoping that I just caught mocha blend on a bad morning. The attitude from the staff was cold, negative, and not welcoming. I was the only customer and watched the backs of both baristas for a few minutes before having my order taken. This was in stark contrast to the bright, peppy welcome I received at the Starbucks, down the street in Troy. Also, oddly, they didn't know what a macchiato was. I will give it to them though, they did a great job making it once I explained what it was. I also received some attitude when trying to pay with a credit card. I did then order a sandwich to meet their minimum, but after paying, the woman that was working with me just walked out of the shop. I was left wondering if there was someone making my sandwich. In conclusion... I would go back because their espresso is great. Better than Starbucks, no doubt. I just hope I catch them on a better day with a more...
Read moreUnfriendly and judgmental staff. Lots of Trump memorabilia decorating the entire place, including a large trump teddy bear with its own seat in the corner along with photos of conservative Supreme Court justices (strange choice of decoration). They seem to have an evangelical Christian atmosphere which came off as forced since they were playing loud modern Christian worship music on repeat over the speakers. Other customers were walking around loudly saying âpraise the lordâ and talking about the âtemptation of evil spiritsâ which added to the uncomfortable and cult-like atmosphere. One customer was on a loud rant to a group of others about how people with dementia are being âdeceived by the devilâ which I found extremely insensitive and ill-informed. Not a friendly or inclusive environment, I regret spending a penny here. Lots of red flags during just the 15 minutes that I...
