It's always surprising when similar restaurants are found clustered close to each other in a neighborhood. This is the case for the newly opened Adelitas Mexican restaurant on West Genesee in Camillus. It's located right across the street from Moe's Southwestern Grill, and less than a mile from Azteca Mexican Grill (one of my family's favorite and most frequented restaurants) at the corner of Milton and Hinsdale. Perhaps the management of the new Rochester chain restaurant felt that there was already a market for Mexican food in the area and that they could come in and blow the other two restaurants out of the water. That's going to be hard because Azteca serves very good food at a price that is less expensive by perhaps a third. Our meal at this new restaurant started when our server delivered complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa had a nice fresh taste, but it was so thin that it was difficult to keep on the chip and off your shirt. My wife and I ordered a chili relleno to share as an appetizer. It was the highlight of the meal. The coating on the pepper was delicious and the cheese inside was like ricotta. For a main course, I had the chili verde. The sauce was very good, but the chunks of pork we're tough, indicating that the meat had not been cooked long enough to reach the desired fall-apart stage. As for the sides, I enjoyed the refried beans, but passed on the rice. My wife ordered the chicken mole enchiladas. The chicken was tender and the corn tortilla had a nice vibrant corn flavor, but the mole sauce was weak. The brownie sundae we had for dessert was good. We will return to try other menu items, but will order two chile rellenos next time. UPDATE-1: Returned to try more selections off the menu. I ordered a combo meal with two chile relleno and two sides of refried beans. Delicious. My wife ordered a trio of enchiladas including cheese, chicken mole, and beef. I had a taste of the beef enchilada and it was excellent. The flan, recommended by the waiter, proved to be a very tasty dessert, and the portion was more than enough for two to share. UPDATE-2: Our third visit was a disappointment. The chili relleno had a soggy coating, the cheese was not melted, and the pepper was filled with numerous hard seeds. Decreased our rating from...
Read moreDo yourself a favor, order the chips and salsa, maybe a few drinks. And then go across the street to Moe's and order food. You'll have a better food experience. Ordered the dos camarades, steak tasted like it was burnt, not charred like it maybe should, also the smallest portion of steak I've ever been served. Chicken was at least moist but extremely bland. Rice was incredibly dry and inedible. Refried beans were okay, but there was no real flavor there. Wife ordered a burrito without specific items on it. Order was completely ignored, and then when it was brought back, it looked like they just scraped what wasn't wanted off it and sent back out. We did order drinks, and I like my whiskey neat. So nothing to really mess up there. However, my wife ordered an amaretto sour, and it was absolutely disgusting. Supposedly, their sour mix has tequila in it? I've never heard of such a thing. But I guess that's how they get you to enjoy your inedible food by getting you drunk. The best part of the meal was the chips and salsa. I would say bottle the salsa, close...
Read moreWent out for dinner with my boyfriend and we were seated immediately as we walked in. The booths are really comfortable and leave enough room for you to get in and out without having to squeeze but also close enough so you don’t risk getting food in your lap. Once we placed our order with our server, who was really nice by the way, everything started coming out to the table at once. First the drinks and with the chips and salsa . Then the beans/rice/guacamole/salad plate with the fresh tortillas. And next, right on time, the Molcajete. It was incredibly tasty and was enough to fill up both myself and my boyfriend. The service was also really fast with the waitress quickly assisting when we requested more utensils or napkins. She consistently checked up on our drinks. They was also another lady who helped by keeping our table clear throughout the whole experience. In total, it took about 45 minutes from walking in to finishing our food. We will definitely...
