Growing up in Carmel, Carvel was always a family favorite for their celebratory ice cream cakes and occasional sweet treat. In recent years, somebody was always bound to stop in on a Wednesday evening for their soft serve BOGO sundae deal. Perhaps thereās been a recent change in management because my last visit was nothing short of disappointing.
I stopped in on a Wednesday evening after physical therapy to get an ice cream sundae to go. My order was rather simple, a small Hot Fudge Sundae with Peanuts. With tax, my order came to just over $6.00, which for machine churned ice cream is definitely on the expensive side. Regardless, I paid for my order, took my ice cream to go, and was on my way.
To my mistake, it wasnāt until I got to the car that I realized that the sundae was missing the hot fudge. I walked back into the store and rudely got an earful from the manager that since my āsundaeā had peanuts on it, the hot fudge would be considered an āadditional topping.ā I was told I would have to pay an additional $1 to get the hot fudge. Funny how at other establishments a āsundaeā includes some sort of fudge topping and a cherry.
Working for a corporate retail establishment, I understand that certain pricing is in place. But I canāt support a business that haphazardly delivers a product and then demands that the customer pays more for THEIR mistake. Iām fine to pay the appropriate price for an item, but not an the expense of a rude manager.
If youāre in the Carmel area, check out some of the more local ice cream shops. Youāre bound to get a better deal and hopefully managers who actually appreciate...

I placed an order last Monday for my 4 year olds birthday cake to be picked up Sunday morning. Went back Tuesday as well to finalize the extra details. Sunday morning we go to pick up the cake and the cake has not even been started. No communication prior regarding a delay or anything. I demanded a call from the owner (who actually took my initial order), and the owner has not even had the decency to call me back. Once a frequent customer, I will never set foot in there again after having to explain to my 4 year old that she would not have her themed birthday cake. Donāt depend on this...

So I asked kindly to exchange the flavor and the guy started huffing and puffing then ask me what was wrong with the flavor. I told him nothing but my son just wanted a different one he was clearly crying! So he grabbed the icecream tried it and yelled at my 3 year old son saying thereās nothing wrong with it and he canāt take it back. I will never go back to this store again. I used to spend so much money here. Never again! And I will be calling headquarters about this. And I will be telling everyone in this neighborhood...
