My friend and I ordered 30 chicken wings and a small cheese and peperoni pizza to go. When my friend called, he asked if there were any specials, and the woman taking the order said there were not specials, because of covid. On their menu it says that the price of 30 wings is $28.33, and a small pizza is $9.99. On our receipt, we were charged $37.99 for the wings, plus $1 for 33 wing sauce. The pizza cost $12.99 plus $1.66. I called and talked to Holly who said she was the manager, and asked her how it was possible that my bill came to $58.33, for a small pizza and 30 wings, when the menu did not even come close to reflecting these charges. She said that the cost of wings went up 2 months ago, and that it says on the menu "prices are subject to change without notice". I realize prices went up on chicken wings, but a $10 increase should be reflected on the menu, like most other places show. And to make it even worse, she was very rude and talking over me, and I asked if I could speak to the owner or have the owner call me. She said the owner will tell me the same thing. I actually was in there 2 days ago and the food was pretty good, so I wanted my friend to try it. My bill 2 days ago for a single order of the same type of wings, a burger and fries, and 2 double Jack and Cokes, didn't even come to $60. So maybe they just charge whatever they feel like charging that day. There are so many better food places in buffalo that are cheaper, have friendly employees, and are clean. I would recommend going to one of those places, because I can easily see this restaurant...
Read moreTerrible service and uncomfortable experience
I came to The 33 Speakeasy Grill to pick up a takeout order and left feeling humiliated, ignored, and deeply uncomfortable. I stood at the bar for over 10 minutes trying to get the attention of either bartender—making eye contact, raising my hand subtly, and waiting patiently. The female bartender acknowledged me briefly and said she’d be right with me, but then disappeared to the other side of the bar and continued serving others. I tried to get the male bartender’s attention, and not only did he ignore me, but he gave me a strange look and proceeded to help others instead.
After about 15 minutes of being passed over, I walked to the other side of the bar to try again, and the male bartender made a sarcastic and unnecessary remark about how I could “go back to the other side to wait my turn (for drinks)”—even though I was clearly just there to pick up food. At this point, I felt like I was being mocked, not helped. It felt personal. It felt discriminatory. And I felt extremely out of place.
Eventually, the female bartender helped me—but only after about 20 minutes of waiting and being made to feel like an inconvenience. As one of the only Black women in the bar, I couldn’t help but wonder if that played a role in how I was treated. Regardless, no one deserves to feel ignored, embarrassed, or unwelcome while simply trying to pick up dinner.
I won’t be returning, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone who expects basic respect and...
Read moreI was denied service because the male bouncer couldn’t tell the difference between blonde hair and brunette hair (my ID pic is when I had blonde hair and I recently dyed it brown). He told me he didn’t trust my ID even though I am 23 years old. I was willing to giving him other photo ID to prove it was myself and all my cards with the same name on it. When I asked to speak to the manager he told me “he had already talk to her and she wasn't coming out to talk to me because he said no” but later in the conversation he stated that the manager “(HE) had a couple drinks and couldn’t talk to me”. When I asked the first time it was a female manager but when I pushed back more it became a male manager. Whether it was a male or female… it was very degraded and embarrassing after driving 25 mins to there. Then, the bouncer told me if was my own fault I had to wait outside in 30° weather all because I had changed my hair color. He also said he knew it was a real ID but refused to get his manager or anyone else to talk to. I honestly wish I could give this bar 0 stars for the way this bouncer made me feel. I’m not one usually to complain because I have worked in the restaurant business in the past but I had never felt so minuscule and degraded in my life ever. Shame on your bouncer and management for not taking the proper care of people who WERE willing to buy drinks at your bar. At least Crabapples was a close enough walk to...
