We went for dinner for two tonight and I needed a nap before I even finished my dinner. For appetizers we got the Beer Cheese and Bacon Potato Skins and Wild Mushroom Stuffed Quail. The beer cheese was so smooth and delicious and the portion size is pretty substantial for an appetizer. The quail was perfect with just the right amount of stuffing and crispy skin. The demi-glace was a great touch and just took a perfect appetizer to the next level. We didn’t get pictures of the appetizers because they got devoured too quickly.
For dinner I got the Duck which came with herbed quinoa, seared vegetable stack and blackberry demi-glace. The duck was cooked PERFECT, with a lovely crisp to the skin and fat rendered perfectly. The quinoa had a nice herby flavor without being too much and the vegetables were just soft enough to melt in your mouth but not overcooked to be hard to pick up, and the extra sprinkle of kosher salt when plating was a nice touch. The blackberry demi wasn’t overly sweet but worked perfectly with the savory, gamey duck flavor.
My wife got the Filet, which was so soft and tender you almost didn’t need a fork. Perfectly seasoned and seared, it was like eating prime rib but as a filet. It came with a beer cheese and bacon potato, which was a little overkill after eating the same thing for an appetizer, but that’s on us. The grilled asparagus was tender and flavorful, but not mushy or overdone. The Filet typically comes with wild mushroom demi-glace, but it was substituted for the blackberry demi as my wife doesn’t like mushrooms.
For dessert, we got a creme bruleé that was practically pudding. It was so light and fluffy compared to most creme bruleé that it was a little weird at first because we were expecting slightly denser custard and instead got a vanilla flavored cloud with bruleéd sugar. It was absolutely fantastic.
Long story short, from one chef to another, I want to fight Christian Felix because he’s out here making the rest of us look bad. He already knocked breakfast out of the park and now his dinner is just as perfect. There’s a small part of me that wished I lived closer to Brewerton so we could come here more often, as it’s a bit of a hike from Jordan. But at the same time, I’m really glad we don’t live closer because I would be here WAY too much. 10/10, can’t wait to try what else Christian and his family come up with. Great food great service, great atmosphere. I absolutely cannot recommend this place enough. Dinner is currently running Thursday through Sunday from 5:00pm-9:00pm. Do yourself a...
Read moreI hate to leave negative reviews for a local business but this is a way of giving feedback. Unfortunately, we weren't able to try the food because we tried going over the weekend and they were closed. I also hate giving a negative review to a restaurant when I haven't tried the food but there's more to running a restaurant business than just the food.
I have been wanting to take my fiancee to try this diner since I heard good things about it and finally had time to make the 25 minute drive on Sunday. When we got there, it was closed. Mind you, before we decided to go, we looked at the Google page to make sure you were open. According to this page, you were. We also looked at the website numerous times to go through the menu and see what we were going to have. There was no mention of the restaurant being closed.
When we got there and saw it was closed we parked to figure out what we were going to do since we were far away from home and needed to eat. I ended up looking at the Facebook page and after scrolling through numerous posts I found one from six days prior saying you were closed for the week. My fiancee doesn't have Facebook, and I don't follow the page, so without going to the page and searching for the info we were looking for, we never would have known. I can appreciate a local business being closed for taking the time off that they need but making one Facebook post announcing a close is doing the bare minimum. Not everyone follows pages of a place that they want to go to and it's not the first place someone goes to get info on a business. It's social media, not a place to run a business through.
I would really like this to be more of a feedback post than a negative review, especially since people clearly love the food. But this was my experience and I can't judge the food or the service, only the business operations, so I can't give 5 stars.
Hopefully, the next time you guys take needed and deserved time off you will update your Google listing and put a note on your website. The 5 minutes it takes to do that will show you care about customers from all outlets and could save someone an hour of driving on...
Read moreThis place exceeded our expectations, even after reading local reviews by the local newspaper. The blend of familiar and eclectic makes picking a dish a true journey that guarantees to please. We made a slight mistake that we didn't realize we should have made a reservation, but the staff reacted quickly and got us seated despite the reduced capacity due to the pandemic. The elderberry jam drizzle caught my wife's eye on the bennies (chef Christian's take on eggs benedict), and the flavor was savory with a touch of tanginess in the jam. Now my wife is not a big eater, but she cleaned her plate! As for me, I went for the create your own breakfast ($2 per item) to make my own creation. I got a cathead biscuit (HUGE), sausage, eggs (scrambled, comes with 1 piece of toast), utica greens, and quinoa pancakes. The pancakes were a healthier take on traditional pancakes but taste just as good, it affects the consistency a bit, but not bad. But with the remaining items I made my own breakfast sandwich and it was out of this world. The biscuit is tasty and dense. The sausage and eggs were as good as could be expected, but my superstar is the greens; they're some of the best greens I've had outside Utica. They have the perfect blend of spice and garlic, and to make it match the breakfast vibe, there's even some bacon in there. Like I said, mix of familiar and unique. I highly recommend this place. Get a reservation, do takeout, whichever; this place is a must visit! It's located conveniently close to the Rt 81 exit and you...
