Tonight was our first time ordering from here on Grubhub and after trying the food tonight, we feel like idiots for not having tried them sooner. Everything tastes great, pulled pork is moist, ribs are tender and so is the brisket. I am super picky and actually enjoyed their cole slaw, potato salad wasn't bad either (we added a pinch more of salt and some sweet relish to make it perfect for us). The only reason I did not give 5 stars was because they have a delicious BBQ sauce (perfect amount of sweetness but not too vinegary either) that was very lightly drizzed on the food...and they didn't give us extra sides of it! There wasn't enough put on the food for us. We were actually going to order another platter tonight after they delivered and get some extra BBQ sauce for pick up, but they were closed. I also thought portion wise we could have gotten a little more brisket but that's a tiny complaint because it was so yummy. Will definitely try them again though. Please put a couple of sides of BBQ sauce in with your to go orders, I think a lot of your customers would...
Read moreCame here traveling from albany to nyc strictly for breakfast off the recommendation of Google. Ordered the biscuits and gravy and coffee. Biscuits appeared homemade and gravy was good. The place is small but the people inside are welcoming and very hospitable which gave the place it's charm. Was ready for the road home and not big on chit chat but the owner is big on smoked bbq. He even makes and sells his own rubs! Stomach was not in the mood to try sadly. On the drive home, I wanted to tell the one owner a way I made ribs. I take a gallon of apple cider and boil it down to about a cup. I use that, apple cider vinegar, and pieces of chopped up apples to make bbq sauce. I make a rub of S&P (no G) and add that to roughly 2 parts sugar 1 part cinnamon and generously season the ribs. Then I take 1 parts brown sugar and sprinkle ribs on top. Low slow with apple wood. No wrap, try to get some sprinking of burnt sugar to develop on the ribs and finish with the bbq sauce....
Read moreDon't let the location fool you - this is legit superb bbq. The pulled pork is juicy and flavorful, as is the pork belly. The Memphis Hot Chicken is made with chicken that is smoked first, adding a dimension to the flavor that is unparalleled. If you can, have something with the ale cheese sauce on it - it's deeply flavorful and slightly spicy.
Maybe I'm in the minority when saying this about a bbq restaurant, but the coleslaw is the star of the show. It's the perfect balance of sweet and tart and savory and the mix of veggies with the cabbage makes it even more delicious. And don't forget the dessert. Seriously, use some discipline and save room for a cannoli or a slice of pie.
The best part of the experience, though, is the staff. Demetrios could not be a nicer guy. I enjoyed our conversation as much as the meal. He's a person who loves to cook and is really talented at balancing and combining flavors. Smokin' Pig BBQ is one heck of a place to eat and...
