Updated review: Visited MG again in late September 2023 and can happily report that the jerk chicken and cabbage are just as delicious as the other items I’ve tried from them. The staff is so friendly and pleasant. I wish the MG Cafe were closer to me, I would visit it every day!
I went on a trip to the mall with my best friend and we have very different tastes when it comes to food. After eyeing up my options, I noticed MG Cafe in the corner with the Guyana flag.
They have a lunch menu that’s about $10 and I believe it’s discounted for mall employees. There are also daily specials, and I was fortunate enough to catch the oxtail. It was about $18 and came with rice & beans and cucumber.
Their oxtail was genuinely some of the best I’ve had in the area. They aren’t quite as spicy as I’m used to, but there’s a good amount of meat on them and they taste home-cooked. Best of all — they’re not greasy like other restaurants sometimes prepare them. The rice and beans were also really good and well-seasoned, too. There was enough food leftover to have seconds later, so I would say it was a good deal. And you grab one of the $10 pick-2 options, you can easily get two meals out of $5.
I wish I’d been able to try more from MG Cafe but was surprised to learn they’ve been at this location for two years! This is definitely a good reason to visit Colonie Center more often. It was one of the highlights of my day and I look forward to...

Ive only been here a few times, but the flavors here and wonderful and the cooking brings the feeling of authenticity one might expect at a friends house. The rasta pasta with jerk chicken was flavorful, with a perfect amount of spice and creamy texture. I have also had baked chicken with rice and beans among a few other things, all of which I have thoroughly enjoyed. Their smoothies are great also!
Prices are reasonable. Yes, its more expensive than some other places like the Chinese food next door, but the quality and flavor here is on a different level.
The staff here are super nice and were happy to give me recommendations when I asked. If you are in the mall, without question get...
Read moreI should start by saying that I usually do not eat food from mall food courts because I've been disappointed in the past. I only got food today because I was shopping and didn't feel due to not having lunch. I'm happy that I stumbled upon MG Cafe. I ordered rice and peas, Guyanese chicken and cabbage. I also got a chocolate chip cookie because they were fresh out of the oven. The food had great flavor. I enjoyed the cookie and it was a plus because there was just enough salt sprinkled on top. Also, I feel that the prices are very reasonable. Next time I'm in colonie center I will definitely get food from MG Cafe. Low-key sad I didn't see roti on the menu but they are fairly new so hopefully...
