O'Neill's Shire Pub — Restaurant in Town of Delhi

Had the shire burger. Ordered rare. Came perfectly rare. Hard to find a rare burger. Came with a huge serving of fries. Server was great. Would highly recommend this pub. Please don't close! Saw the pub on Zillow. Haven't had a burger cooked to my liking since I was in my 20s at the Cape. In my late 50s when I ordered my mouth watering Shire Burger. The shire made me a beautiful rare burger just to my liking would be very sorry to see it close! Will be there on Friday!! Went back today 5/24. Shire burger, extra rare. Perfect! Hope the new owners keeps this gem up. Beautiful pub, great food, perfect and kind service. Never disappoints. Back again this past weekend. Got the shire burger since made especially rare for me last year. Staff wonderful, waitress, sorry if not PC,put in extra rare. I went with that burger in mind since last year...perfection. This place doesn't disappoint. Same burger very rare. Most restaurants lean on "health codes" etc for the litigious folks. I hate that and respect people like the Shire who will serve a burger extra rare. We had a great lunch. My Mom grew up in Delhi, I also spent great summers there with my grandmother. We come back for memories and family but also for The Shire. Hope better than thou city people don't buy it and ruin it...

I love the place. Current owners and the best hands on manage ever Rachel will jump in and make sure everything is great.

The food is excellent, not overly fancy, and IT DOESN'T NEED TO BE. It's perfect the way it is including a constant draft line of Genese CREAM ALE for $3 a pint. I had an event there 3years ago and they even worked with me to ensure we had even better then usual draft choices. Truly a gem in the mountains.

The place has recently been sold and will shut down 9/3/25 for changeover to the new owners [permitting and licensing allegedly necessitate this (??). I have met the new owners and they seem nice and say they are committed to the place and concept of keeping it welcoming, approachable and and affordable to all line it is now. I am honestly skeptical of this as they are from Brooklyn and often when the city comes up north it can ruin the vibe, the life, the feel and all that makes these upstate places great. I hope hope hope hope and pray that the next time I'm up (next season or sooner -- as I'll be back in early October for the Hootnanny) that they're back open and even better!!!

Had dinner with my husband. We both had a steak, different steaks though. Mine was from the regular menu his was a special. I asked for medium rare as I always do at any restaurant. The meat was not medium rare, it was seared on the outside but raw and cold on the inside. I sent it back to have cooked a little more. It came back cool instead of cold, but after cutting the very outer section, it was still raw and fleshy. I ate my French fries and that was it. I might have sent it back again or asked to speak to the manager but I checked recent reviews and saw that this has happened before and that person did not receive customer service. I just paid the bill and we left. The only notable thing was the vegetable my husband had. It was a broccoli cauliflower side that tasted great. But not great enough to save the view on...
