Katie Rose Bakery — Restaurant in Town of East Fishkill

I’ve ordered my birthday cakes from Katie Rose for the past few years, and they’ve always been incredible—so much so that one year, I even ordered two because I couldn’t get enough. That’s why I placed my order again this year, calling three weeks in advance to ensure everything would be perfect for my special day.

Unfortunately, that didn’t happen.

When I picked up the cake, I immediately noticed it wasn’t what I ordered. I had requested a chocolate cake with chocolate pudding, mousse, fresh strawberries, and chocolate ganache on top. Instead, it was covered in buttercream—something I specifically said I didn’t want. I politely pointed it out, and while they scraped off the buttercream and poured ganache over it, I later discovered a thick band of buttercream still inside the cake.

I called the next day to express my disappointment calmly and respectfully. Instead of acknowledging the mistake, the owner responded with, “Well, what do you want me to do?” She also told me I should have explicitly stated I didn’t want buttercream—when I had already made that clear when placing my custom order. From my understanding, a custom cake should include only the ingredients I asked for—nothing more. Her response felt dismissive and frustrating, especially since I had been kind and understanding.

Still, I tried to give them another chance and agreed to a remake. At pickup, the cake looked okay—but when I cut into it, there was still buttercream on the sides. And to top it off, I almost ate a piece of paper that had been baked into the cake.

I’m honestly heartbroken to say I won’t be returning. Everyone makes mistakes—but how a business handles those mistakes says everything. Between the poor attitude from the owner as well as her staff , and two failed attempts to get my order right, I’ve reached my limit. First time is a mistake, but to be rude to the customer and mess it up again is where I draw the line. I’ve included...

It was wonderfully pleasant ordering my birthday treats from here. They accommodated my last-minute order, but more than that, it was fun to plan the gluten-free & regular treat options over the phone. I ended up with options I didn't know were possible! (PSA -- chocolate mousse AND fresh strawberries pair for a divine filling.)

I love that the cake itself (both the chocolate & gluten-free vanilla) was delightful and not super-sweet as some bakeries make it. Be warned, the cake itself might seem slightly more dense and less fluffy that you might be used to, but it most definitely doesn't translate to dry or stale -- quite the opposite.

Even though I'm not usually a buttercream frosting fan (I usually find it way too sweet), the buttercream decorations paired nicely with the cake -- they offered me whipped cream frosting which was perfect for my chocolate cake with the aforementioned chocolate mousse & fresh strawberry filling.

The gluten-free cupcakes were equally enjoyed, I heard -- not distinguishable as different in flavor or enjoyment by those who tried both. The one thing I heard was that the compote (strawberry, inside the vanilla GF cupcakes) was slightly too sweet for my family's palates, but the cupcakes were still thoroughly enjoyed.

We were absolutely thrilled with the stunning wedding cake created by KatieRose Bakery for our wedding day! From the first tasting to the final slice, the entire experience was a delight. Katie’s attention to detail and creativity truly set her apart. She sat with us at our tasting for almost an hour, talking us through each of our tasting requests and working with us closely with us to design a cake that not only looked beautiful but also tasted incredible. Each layer was moist and flavorful, and we even got to mix and match our layers to reflect each of our personal preferences! The cake itself was so beautiful and exceeded my expectations. On the day of the wedding, I left flowers at the venue for Katie to decorate the cake with, and the final result was stunning. The fact that she was willing to do this to match the flowers of our venue was a detail I will never forget. Katie’s professionalism and expertise gave us complete confidence that our cake would be nothing short of spectacular, and she absolutely delivered.
