Smith's Store — Restaurant in Town of Esopus

What attracts me to this store is the sandwiches. They have a city style taste to them and it's convenient being that I work in the area but let me tell y'all something. There is nothing like spending money in a store and being treated with RESPECT.... something like making a sandwich WRONG and having the wrong attitude about it with a customer is unacceptable. I understand this is a family business but nobody has learned CUSTOMER SERVICE ? I ordered a sandwich my usual I get it Everytime and never do I ask for sesame seeded bread NEVER but on 2 occasions I did unknown to me because I am on my way to work only to be disappointed with the wrong bread...bread I NEVER asked for. I call and was meet with well you can bring it back to the store and we will switch out the bread ..the bread that I never asked for . It was the lack of apology...the I don't really care tone oh and to top it off the young boy goes well you should have specified your bread Keep in mind I have never ..if I didn't ask for sesame why give it to me ??? Today is the last time I'll be eating from here they make me feel like I'm in the Jim crow era ..yea they serve me but it's like oh well yea wrong bread so what they don't care to get my...

I've been going to this deli for at least 10 years now. Today ordered 2 subs, bread tasted like it was from the grocery store. I know they use Deisings Bakery for their bread normally and could tell this was not it. When I called to explain how horrible my sandwiches tasted I was told the bread comes from 2 bakeries I must have gotten "the other one". I have never had my sandwiches on any other bread in the 10 years I've been coming here. I was told if I came back they could make me new sandwiches, explained I was on my way to Massachusetts and could not come back. Was then told to keep them and bring them back in a few days to get new ones. Really? Terrible customer service obviously. It's absurd to ask to keep sandwiches and bring them back. The response I got was, "the owner isn't going to give you a refund if you don't bring them back". Well good for the owner he has now lost my business as well as...

This institution in the heart of Port Ewen is what raised several generations. If you are from Port Ewen at some point and time you have had a sub from Smitty's. If your child has ever gone on a field trip, if you have ever gone someplace early in the morning, If tou ever wanted an egg and cheese on a hard roll or wanted to play the numbers...Smitty's was the place that you went. This family owned family run family operated convenience store is the one and onky stop to make in Esopus. The Smith family has your family and mine for over 40+ years. The sandwich choices are all posted and everyone has a favorite. If you are not from Port Ewen than you need to go and enjoy a hero from the Sub Shop to end all sub shops...blimpies and Subway aint got nothing on this homemade do it all...
