I really struggled with whether to write this review or not, but I had the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant at The Glass Tavern last Saturday night and it's still bothering me. Let me start by saying that the atmosphere was excellent. I wish I got to try the food because the menu looked outstanding, and most of the staff seemed very professional. We had a party of 4, reservation for 7:45. We arrived around 7:35, checked in with the hostess, went to the bar for a cocktail before dinner. A few minutes a woman (who I found out later was the manager Ann) approached our party. She actually touched me on the shoulder, and said my name "Alex party of 4, for 7:45?" We all answered "yes" in unison. We were then guided to our table. We were all excited, looking over the menu, but roughly 2 minutes after we were seated, another party (2 older couple's) was seated right next to us. This is when things spiralled. Before the party next to us sat down one of the men rather loudly asked our table "WHICH ONE OF YOU IS JACK!?". We all looked at each other confused, we thought he was confused or making a joke. He repeated his question 2 more times, angrily. We told him none of us were named Jack. He goes "Oh I just wanted to make sure you F$&#s stole my table, now you've f&@#ing admitted to it." We were all confused and kind of shocked. I said "Jack I think you're a little off base, we didn't steal your reservation." Jack continued to swear and act agressively towards our table, making a scene. I asked Jack to apologize to the women in my party, and he refused and continued to swear. This is when the manager Ann, touched me on the shoulder and said "That's enough sir". I was shocked and disgusted. We all got up from our table and went to the hostess station. Ann came up to speak with us. I asked Ann how behavior like this was allowed to occur in the restaurant. Ann did not apologize, or make any attempt to correct the situation. Instead, the manager of the restaurant defended Jack saying things like "well he has a point". My party was flabbergasted. We had all experienced harrasment over what was almost certainly a simple mistake, or a complete misunderstanding, and a managerial failure. Ann was defending a man who sat down, caused a scene and cussed out total strangers in a restaurant. We couldn't believe not only what had just happened to us, but how Ann seemed to not care, and even took the side of the harasser. After 3 minutes of getting nowhere with the manager, we all walked out and grabbed dinner elsewhere. Oh and while we were walking out Ann said "real mature". The nightmare doesn't end there however. I was so upset, I had left my phone at the table in The Glass Tavern. So my girlfriend and I went back around 9:50. Ann emerged with my cell phone and a smile after about 5 minutes, but nothing else. I had cooled off, so I offered my apologies to Ann for being upset when we had left prior. I felt like she must not have understood why our party was outraged, after all she manages an upscale restaurant... This time my girlfriend and I started explaining the situation to her, and she again became combative, arrogant, condescending, curt and dismissive. She finally did apologize but in a very disingenuous and sarcastic manner. She continued to defend Jack's behavior, stating that it was "understandable because he thought you stole from him". This conversation lasted about 10 minutes. Ann FINALLY asked "what can I do to fix it?" My girlfriend asked for our drinks to be refunded, because none of us were able to come close to finishing them and they were roughly $50 with tip. Ann said in a very disrespectful tone "yeah no, we're not doing that. We're not giving you money back for something that's already gone out." We couldn't believe how fully insane this experience was, and we just wanted to be done with it. I told Ann very frankly that it was clear she did not care at all about our experience. She then offered a gift card which we reluctantly accepted. We gave the gift card...
Read moreMy husband, son and I were looking for a good place to have dinner in Glenville. There is not much to chose from in this small town. We had avoided the Glass Tavern for a little while. Not sure why. It's an odd location, but it's a nice enough building. Anyway, we decided to go into the lobby (which also contains a jeweler, a chocolate store and a doctor's office upstairs), and peruse the menu. While we were looking a gentleman named David came out and asked if we had any questions about the menu. We did since my son has a life-threatening food allergy. We wanted to make sure the prep areas were safe and separate from other prep areas. He assured us they were and that they take every precaution to prevent any sort of cross contamination. His confidence and explanation sold us. We went in.
We were seated in a very rustic and charming bar area with high-top tables. Our waitress Dinene (think Denise+Genienne) explained that they used all reclaimed wood for their tables, and decor. We loved the setting and displays. Everyone was extremely friendly.
As we sat down, we were given some fresh cold water and warm buttered jalapeno cornbread (don't worry though, it's not spicy). It was DELICIOUS!
We ordered the Short Rib Mac & Cheese and the Fish & Chips. Our son had chicken tenders and french fries. All of our food was cooked to perfection, and was quite delicious.
Next time, I'd love to try the Raw Bar, which was a great set up! Everything looked so fresh and delicious!
When presented with our bill, it was put in an old book. What a neat idea! You can also leave a note in the book about your experience. They keep all of the books in their "library" which unfortunately I was unable to peek at because there was a private event. However, what a fun idea to rent out the library for a birthday, anniversary, etc.
Overall, we were very impressed. We are thrilled to have a restaurant of this caliper in our little town. Check it out when you're in Glenville. Excellent service from David and Denine. Wonderful food. ...
Read moreThis restaurant has completely gone down hill since it opened. What used to be an upper scale dining experience is now closer to dining out a low end chain restaurant. With an intended excellent dinning experience like we’ve experienced in the past was regrettably a disappointment with this the most recent experience. The service was slow, unknowledgeable of the evening dinner specials when asked if the dish came fried, broiled or seared or even what sides it comes with, the staff was seen throughout the dining room floor on their personal devices hence the slow unattended table service. Our table was positioned under a ceiling speaker that played Red Hot Chili Peppers and Pearl Jam to name a few. When we ordered a bottle of white wine the waitress provided the wine but no chiller to keep it cold until we asked for one and even then she said she didn’t even know the restaurant had them for the wine. We wonder how she thought our wine was going to stay chilled. After a good 45 minutes to an hour wait for our dinner the chef apologized and offered us a complementary bottle of wine in a chiller. Our dinners...
