The Empire State Aerosciences Museum exhibits an impressive collection of aircraft. They display aircraft going all the way back to WW1 and going all the way to the present. They have great local history exhibits on the development of rockets in Malta, NY. The museum has some indoor galleries, an airplane hangar, and an outdoor aircraft park. Although smaller than other air museums their collection of airplanes is excellent. Some of the highlights include an F-14 Tomcat, an A-4 Skyhawk, an A-10 Thunderbolt, an F-4 Phantom, an F-102, a Huey Helicopter, and F-84F Thunderstreak. They also have a small collection of Russian Mig aircraft, which is hard to find anywhere else. They have simulators from some of the aircraft and you can walk in or touch many of the aircraft on display. Interestingly, they also have a small collection of movie props including a fighter jet used to make the movie “Top Gun,” and the Akagi Aircraft Carrier from the movie “Tora! Tora! Tora!”. A fuselage from a movie about Amelia Earhart called “The Final Flight” can also be seen. For all things that you can see the price of a ticket is reasonable. You can easily spend an hour or two here. There is plenty of parking available. Just look for the Concorde jet in front of an aircraft hanger from the road. Don’t miss this great museum in...

What a wonderful little jewel in Scotia New York. I mean the interior isn't a big classic museum, it's converted hanger space with a few examples of world war 1 airplanes. There is also the fuselage of the Lockheed Electra that was used in the filming of a movie about Amelia Earhart. Then there is a second building that has a huge model of the Japanese aircraft carrier akagi that was used in the filming of Tora Tora Tora. Also they have a couple of rooms dedicated to NASA and rocketry. But outdoor in the jet garden is where the big stuff is. Besides the half scale SST they have on a pedestal out in front, they have quite a few examples of Cold war era military jets. All of them are somewhat weather beaten but you can walk right up to them and put your hands on some historic metal. If you happen upon a wonderful guide like we do (Peter B. ) They will open the UH1 Iroquois and let you sit in the cockpit, also will let you into the mig 17 if...

I feel like some people don’t always appreciate museums in Upstate New York. Many don’t see it as a popular tourist destination. However I would say that anyone that doesn’t stop by here is missing out.

I visit this museum back in 2021 for my bachelor party. It had been on my bucket list for quite some time. It’s a museum full of not only common aircraft that is typical of your average aviation museum, but also rare/one of a kind aircraft you can’t see anywhere else in the U.S.

They have a rare F3D Skyknight along with the only British Scimitar in the US. They also have an F-5; painted to look like a “MiG-28” that was actually used in filming Top Gun. The collection also includes MiGs, a T-2 Buckeye, and a RA-5C Vigilante.

While I have seen many of these planes before, these aren’t ones that are commonly found inside Upstate New York.

Highly recommend for anyone looking for aviation history in...

The museum Is a fascinating visit, and you can spend many hours looking through it. Extremely good value and the staff set the bar for this place. We had the absolute pleasure of being shown around by Peter and learnt more about aviation in a few hours than you could learn in a year. Not just about the planes themselves but the intricacies accompanying them. A humorous, articulate and infinitly knowledgeable chap made our visit an 11/10. You must visit, take your family as the kids can sit in the cockpits of many aircraft too. Don't question it. Go visit
