Uncle Roger would approve.
Hadn't had Chinese in over a year, so I felt like it was time to break that combo and order some take out from the Golden Bird, as it is a location I pass by all the time on the way home.
Ordered over the phone, going with the special of the week, Pineapple Chicken with Egg Fried Rice, a Vegetable Egg Roll, and some Crab Rangoon. All together coming to a little over $31 before tip. I feel like this was a pretty fair price, given the heft of the chicken dish alone.
Order only needed 15 minutes to be done, though I was held up by traffic, and yet it was still nice and warm by the time I got everything home and set out.
The crab rangoon, as I expected, was delicious. Never had bad crab rangoon before, kind of hard to mess up, but I guess you can get shorted on the filling. Not the case here though. The egg roll was also pretty good, though I will say it had a slightly sour-ish aftertaste. It only happened after the first bite, so maybe it did not vibe well with the rangoon? As for the chicken, well, it was a lot. Tons of veggies, good proportions of meat, and a nice slightly spicy flavor that just lit the top of my tongue ablaze. The egg fried rice, my choice of accompanying side, was also real good. It was a bit oily, which was weird, perhaps they used fresh rice instead of day-old? But the flavor was still there and it had nice large chunks of fried egg. Yummers.
Saw quite a few people saying this place has changed for the worse, but I'd disagree, it...
Read moreI was very surprised by the small portion sizes and higher than expected cost. I almost thought there was an error in what I paid or the size of the containers of food I was given. $63.29 worth of food and it barely fed 3 adults. We ordered two orders of crab rangoon for $7.85 each and they were miniature. A really small marble’s worth of filling in each crab rangoon. So tiny. The large boneless spare ribs for $16.95 was a not that big at all. It almost looked like a small side portion. Did I mention it was almost $17?!?! A large roast pork fried rice container was the size of a normal medium sized rice container and it was $11.45… for roast pork fried rice!! Three egg rolls at $2.35 each. And, a small sweet & sour chicken order for $7.45. Also much smaller than expected and it came with the tiniest container of white rice I’ve ever seen. Price inflation is one thing, but the significant portion size decrease is another. The food tasted good, not great, but maybe the amount that was paid for so little food impacted its enjoyment. If the picture seems like these are normal sizes, for comparison, the sweet & sour sauce containers came in 4 ounce soufflé cups. The fortune cookies should also help to provide size...
Read moreA severe allergy to anything with shellfish was discussed when we called. We were then told for delivery we could only order online. We choose carefully. Imagine our surprise when the steamed Buddha,s Delight came embedded in a thick brown sauce. And to top it all off , the pork spring roll ordered w/another’s combo order was a shrimp eggroll, and the veggie one ordered was THE SAME! The manager could not (system wouldn’t let her— ha) give a refund for over half the food that will be discarded. She told us we should order again online, and THEN call to ensure order is filled correctly! What??? The one who goes into anaphylactic shock when eating shellfish had already eaten a piece of broccoli from the supposed Buddha's Delight, when informed by manager it was OYSTER sauce. Then were told we hadn’t checked “steamed!” So it was customer’s fault. We are all watching as person who bit into a wrapper marked “veggie” which was filled with shrimp. And that piece of oyster-soaked broccoli, using a rescue inhaler.. Never written such a negative review before. Sorry to...
