As long time residents of Hastings, we were thrilled to see a new, beautiful restaurant open in town and were more thrilled after having dinner there. After our first dinner at Divino with friends, we decided that this would be a perfect place to host a milestone anniversary dinner for an intimate group of family and friends. From my first communications and meeting with the owner, Gino, I knew we had made a good choice. Any request I made was met with a "no problem" and there were, indeed, no problems with our dinner party last night.
We were given a large table in a somewhat secluded spot where all our guests could mingle and talk while sharing wonderful appetizers, salad and drinks. The meatballs and house salads were particularly excellent as was the generous and warm bread basket served with a wonderful olive oil. We then each ordered a main course from the menu and judging from all the empty plates when we were done , everything was excellent... from the pounded veal chop on the bone to the various fish, lamb chops, frutta di mare and the always excellent chicken parmigiana. We ordered several bottles of wine, both red and white, from the very fairly priced and diverse wine list as well as some brand name alcoholic beverages and even water glasses were kept full without having to ask. We ended with coffee, cappuccino and a truly excellent, buttery crust lemon tart dessert made in-house by Floria.
Divino turned out to be the ideal place to host our very special dinner. At no time were we made to feel rushed. Any request was quickly and pleasantly responded to and most importantly, all our guests agreed that not only was the food excellent but the service and atmosphere couldn't have...
Read moreDivino recently opened up in Hastings and I was incredibly excited to try their food and bask in their ambience of fine Italian dining. So it pains me to say: though I had a comfortable experience, Divino's is not remarkable; actually almost forgettable, and most of all a total rip-off.
The waitress was nice, though not knowledgeable regarding the menu- she had to go back to ask for more info when I had questions on what certain dishes came with. The menu items were that out of a regular old American Restaurant with just fancy Italian words used as descriptions instead. When the food actually came, it was good but not flavorful.
All of this may seem like a decent enough experience deserving at least 4 stars, but the main reason for the low rating is because they charged $60 a person for these normal food items!!
For example, as part of their Prix fixe Valentine's Day menu, the "Cacio & Pepe," normally a $16 entree that is literally just spaghetti with cheese, was paired with a simple appetizer of bread/cheese and a vanilla ice cream, and by some illogical mathematical solution, was price-hiked to $60!
The entire time I was eating, I felt silly and taken for a fool. I wanted to walk away but wanted to be a good, polite patron to a new business in Hastings, so I stuck it out. I deeply regret this as not even the sauce, cheese, nor dessert added any "zest" or mind-blowing taste to this experience.
All in all, I understand how expensive it is running a restaurant, much more so in the town center of a middle-class neighborhood. However, if you're going to charge the price, you have to deliver on the quality, and the fact is that Divino did not meet even my lowest of...
Read moreHad another great night at Divino this evening, although memorial weekend was rained out I came out for a wonerful dinner with friends and, decided to sit at the bar. The bartender, caitlyn made great recommendations between the food and the drinks. We all had different dishes, which were all great, from the pastas to the lamb chops, all cooked to exceed our expectations, the pasta was perfectly el dente and the lamb chops were seasoned to perfection. The drinks were tasty and so beautiful ( especially the butterfly cocktail) the variety of options were exceptional and, this is now our go to spot when we want to have a great night out with friends and family, knowing that we wont be disappointed. We would recommend to anyone, family friendly and a date night spot for sure. They have a speakeasy! Downstairs from the main dining area, its the coolest place you will visit in the hudson valley. It doenst stop there, the entire restaurant overlooks the crospey mansion with a huge water fountain and a...
