Apollo Restaurant Diner — Restaurant in Town of Hempstead

Very nice people! I ordered the pancake and bacon the bacon was a little rubbery but palatable. I’m assuming they use thick cut bacon. The pancakes was missing the balance between structure and soup when pancake syrup was applied. The presentation show that they provide a generous amount of bacon. The staff was very nice and quick to recognize me when I came into the place, seated me at the table, took my order, brought me coffee, and had my pancakes ready within about 6 minutes—super fast.

Oh the coffee—horrible even with cream and sugar. I would suggest trying a Colombian blend.

The meal cost $19 and for the price, service, and experience it’s worth it. If I’m in the area I probably wouldn’t revisit—nothing bad about the place—I would probably.

The one star: people who know me understands that in order get at least 2 stars takes multiple visits and checks for quality and consistency. In additional your restaurant has to be exceptional and it requires some technical aspect do food—all of what’s lacking here. I’ll assume it’s because of the majority of the people in the community as to why it lacks the flavor and options traditional in other areas. I think the food choices and plating could be better. Maybe even start making the pancake batter in house (if you do use fresh daily) because the batter and the bacon to me taste like it was prepared days in advance.

We were a party of 3 arrived at 6:30 all ordered dinners we placed our ordered at 6:37, roast beef w/mashed potatoes & cream spinach, open faced turkey, mashed potatoes & cole slaw, stuffed tilapia with crabmeat stuffing, baked potato,& broccoli , our soup and salads were served to us at 6:41 ,our meals were not brought to booth until 7:43 the baked potato tilapia was dry and hard crusted on top and broccoli were ice cold had to be returned only to reheated and returned and potato was like rubbery an unedible , top of roast beef was so dryer out yet under meat was ok same goes for turkey, mash potato were luke warm leaving us to know that the food sat on warm table long before seved , so upon completing our dinners at 8:22 we were taking our dessert to go only to recieve to wrong dessert bag and brought to our booth our waitress only check on our table 2x once prior to meal being serviced for refills on drinks and once after to bring back baked potato, meal served by waitress and someone totally different otherwise we asked a busboy or the other waiter in the section ....I have eaten here quite often but this night ...makes me consider one of the other diners in the area as I travel to get to this diner I don't live in North Merrick wish I could remember the name of waitress if I do go back will never have her serve us wouldn't let her...

As far as diners go, this one doesn't impress very much. I ordered the California burger, medium rare and I got a well done burger. And it seems like diners in general aren't very good at making a burger medium rare, never mind medium, which is why I order a burger medium rare in the hopes they'll actually get it to a medium. It just seems like diner burgers aren't what they used to be, or what you expect them to be...at least not at this place & believe me, I've tried this place often; it's my aunt's favourite diner so a casual outing with her will mean eating at this place. And it's not just the burgers, my boyfriend ordered a panini again and he wasn't anymore impressed with this one than he was with the one he ordered the last time.
