Boardwalk Cafe — Restaurant in Town of Hempstead

Today me and my two boys ate lunch at the boardwalk cafe..... after ordering I went to use the restroom. Well..... the bathroom was a disgrace. Garbage all over ... unflushed toilets... feminine products in stalls. 🤢 Upon my return to the dining room I shared my experience with the "manager" and was met with a confrontational response. I was told the bathrooms were cleaned every few hours and he can't help it if people were slobs. I expressed that I didn't appreciate his tone of voice and he retorted that he didn't my tone of voice!! Lol. Obviously someone is in the wrong line of work if dealing with patrons is annoying to him. Oh ... did I mention the overflowing garbage cans immediately outside the doors on the upper deck of the cafe..... I guess Mr.sunshine is above grunt work. This place could be a gold mine but not with him at the helm. Ever heard of customer service??? Btw the public bathroom at the bathhouse was spotless with one woman cleaning constantly throughout the day. It's nice to see someone take pride in their job. Ordered a premise panini that took half an hour to warm up. When I told the counter person that maybe they should warm up the panini machine before they open, she said, “Why? No one orders that anyway.” I said, “Why do you have them?” She shrugged. I asked for the manager and she pointed to an old guy who had been there the entire time “doing inventory”. I mentioned the issue with the wait and the machine being put on at opening and he gave me a blank stare and said thank you sarcastically. I asked him what was up with his attitude and he said that it is after the fact and there was nothing he could do!! I said, “you could apologize and be sincere and maybe offer me something for my trouble like a Diet Coke.” He just stared at me. And I said, “No wonder your employees do not know how to act. We ordered two cheeseburgers, one hotdog, one french fries & one bottle of soda, and the total was $43.98. Yes, it is expensive and had we brought our own food either from home of outside, it would have costed about a half price. I don’t know why it should be more expensive at the venues like ballpark or beach, maybe to pay the lease but water at $6 and soda bottle at $4 is bit exorbitant.

Being that said, the food was better than I thought, as it was warm and it tasted fine. Maybe there were just few customers so didn’t need to make the food in advance, but was better than some places where they serve cold burgers and french fried that were made a few hours ago.

Overall, if you don’t bring your own food, this place is good to take care of one meal. However, I will definitely bring my own food before taking off...
