Express Seafood Que Rica Comida! — Restaurant in Town of Hempstead

My son and I are regulars at Express Seafood, and it’s safe to say it’s one of our absolute favorite places to dine. We always order the Surf & Turf—grilled Shrimp as the “surf,” paired with Broccoli and Mashed Potatoes for my son, while I enjoy my steak with Grilled Calamari and Double Garlic Bread (extra, extra Garlic, of course). The chef consistently cooks our steaks perfectly—medium rare for me and rare for my son.

I first discovered Express Seafood by chance. After being discharged from the hospital and on a diet of soft foods, I was heading to Subway for a Tuna Salad when I noticed Express Seafood. I stopped in to get a menu, but they were in the middle of updating it. The chef, hearing it was my first visit, offered me a taste of their Lobster Bisque—it was incredible! From that moment, I was hooked.

Since then, we’ve tried a variety of dishes: Fried Calamari, Seafood Fried Rice, Buffalo Chicken Wings, Lobster Ravioli, Penne A La Vodka With Shrimp, the Seafood Trio, Salmon Oreganata, Mussels In Red Sauce, and Fish & Chips. We’ve also enjoyed their Shrimp Soup, Manhattan Clam Chowder, and New England Clam Chowder. I never liked Manhattan Clam Chowder before, but their version is delicious!

Our personal favorites are the Surf & Turf, Salmon Oreganata, Fried And Grilled Calamari, Lobster Ravioli, Fish & Chips, and the Mussels. Honestly, everything we’ve tried has been excellent—it’s clear they serve great food!

The chef is a true gem—not only incredibly skilled but also exceptionally friendly. He’s there every day except Tuesdays, and we make sure to visit on the days he’s in the kitchen. His attention to detail and ability to cook everything perfectly is a big reason why we keep coming back.

The staff—Melady, Michelle, and the chef—are exceptional. Their kindness and hospitality set them apart. When my son and I were injured, they reached out to us with genuine concern. Melady even told me they thought of us as family, and I can confidently say we feel the same way.

I wanted to write this review while it was fresh in my mind. I stopped by after the gym today without any expectations. I just wanted to try something different. I walked into Express Seafood and was received well from the beginning! Excellent customer service given by the person at the cashier. Just willing to answer any questions I had while making recommendations (which so many restaurants for some reason don’t do anymore!). I ended up ordering the steak and shrimp (surf and turf) with their garlic bread. I also had the fish tacos which came 3 to an order. And OMG! Let me just say that they did NOT disappoint. The food was just so FRESH! A staple in seafood cuisine. It HAS to be fresh, and it really was! The steak was cooked perfectly and their shrimp, a chefs kiss. SO GOOD! Not only that, while I waited for my food to be done, they were kind enough to share samples. I tried their lobster bisque, chicken soup, and ceviche. Every single one of them was AMAZING. This is the best fresh local seafood restaurant! The food is delicious and the service exceeded my expectations. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by Melody and offered samples of different soups and the delicious ceviche. The lobster bisque and the garlic bread are top notch. It’s a family run spot so that already contributes to the warmth of the experience but we were blown away by the incredible food - we got calamari, a fried seafood sampler, and a fried fish entree. The portions were huge and there was enough leftover to take home and enjoy there as well. We also got two of the specials, the shrimp and the burger to bring home. Everything was so good and fresh, even the tartar sauce was tasty. Oh and the freshly made drinks too! The lemonade and tamarind drinks complemented the food so well. It was truly a fresh seafood feast - this restaurant is what I picture when I crave fresh seafood living on an island!
