Italian American Bakery — Restaurant in Town of Hempstead

First, I have to say that I have been going to this bakery since I was a kid. It was good, for a while, it wasn’t so good, But it has always been my go to every time I come into town. And this time, it was great! An art gallery of flavor. I bought my Ma’s favorite cake for her birthday, Strawberry Shortcake. I bought it Friday with intention to present it that evening to her but our day of fun got away from us and we completely forgot it in the fridge. We brought it to my brother’s house for Father’s Day Sunday and much to our delight it was still soft, moist, flavor full and Mom said it is the best she ever tasted, it was a big hit at the party. I used this bakery constantly when I lived on southern around the corner. I know I’ll drive three hours from Delaware just to get my cakes done by the owner. However I will say this she should absolutely hire someone just to take phone calls. The only reason I say this is because it is way too hard to understand her over the phone and I do find myself getting frustrated. However the food is excellent there’s no question about that. Have always thought my pastries and bread at Amato’s. Yesterday I bought St. Joseph pastries we were so disappointed that we had to throw them out. The cream tasted horrible and the pastry dough had no taste at all. My friend brought the miniature St. Joseph pastry to her cousins house and they had the same results. This is very sad because the pastry is not cheap but the Quality was always very good. I do not know who is baking the pastry and who is making the canoli cream but it was a disaster.
