Prince Umberto — Restaurant in Town of Hempstead

'FRESHER IS ALWAYS BETTER!" Prince Umberto Pizzeria & Restaurant 721 Franklin Ave, Franklin Square, NY 11010 Today 10/26/2023, I took my Honey for lunch for the first time to Prince Umberto's in Franklin Square, NY. We both love good home made Italian food. I read some nice reviews, checked out their menu online and saw items we both like to eat, so to not far away Franklin Square we went! It was about 2;30 pm when we got there, the pizzeria side was busy but the dinning area side was wasn't busy at all, and that's exactly where we wanted to go. Our waiter and server Johnathan greeted us and sat us at a nice comfortable table. I ordered something for my Honey and I to drink, nothing with alcohol, while we looked over the menu. I told Johnathan we were going to first try a few appetizers, and after that, if we were still hungry we would order something else. I asked Johnathan, please, DO NOT bring us all the food at once, as so many other restaurants seem to want to do! All that food at once just overwhelms you, plus sitting there, the food just gets cold before you get to eat it. Johnathan said, not a problem, tell me what to bring you, and I will bring it when you tell me, YES! We started off first with Littleneck Clams on the half shell, then we had whole backed clams that were just made, nice and piping hot, and so, so, delicious. Next we enjoyed a nice size pot of mussels cooked with white wine and garlic, Johnathan brought us their just baked HOT pizza dough bread with butter on the side, it was excellent especially when we were dunking the bread into the mussel juice! After that my Honey and I had to try their Trippa Napoletana, we both love tripe! This tripe with the sauce made at Prince Umbertos was so good, my Honey had to take some home! It had no potatoes, no peas, just tender cooked tripe in a delicious mild sauce, which I was also enjoying on the hot pizza dough bread too. Just delicious. Wow! While were eating, the owner, and the chef came over to us a couple of times to ask if everything was okay and to our liking, and if we needed anything else, which was very nice of them to do. We now were both pretty full, but I had to check out their dessert menu first, before we left. I spotted their Italian ice cream Tartufo, and my Honey spotted the Tiramisu. We suddenly found a little space to tackle dessert, OMG! They both were so yummy! Now as far as prices go in this day and age of high prices, this restaurant has very, very, fair prices for quality fresh food! And I might add, this is one of the very few restaurants that is not charging any extra fee for using your credit card, I hope they can continue doing that, we shall see? We shall return for sure. Their food was so good, and freshly cooked to order, just as if we were home, it was a delight to go to Prince Umberto's in Franklin Square today! Johnathan did an excellent job taking good care of us. And if I am going write an honest review, which I am, I have one wish, we both love clams on the half shell, ice cold. The clams on the half shell we had today were really fresh, but they were room temperature and not cold at all? I wish they can serve them ice cold, the next time we come. I just had a dinner there , 1/9/15. We were a party of 3. I'd like to first off tell you that the food was absolutely delicious, however we will not be returning because of the horrible service. the waitress never even introduced herself, after having us sit there for about 15 minutes with out even offering a beverage, therefore i don't know her name. She was a short stocky lady. We finally get a bus boy to get us our waitress so we can order food. Again the food was amazing, we did wait a while for the food, she seemed to be more interested in taking care of all the other guests, standing and talking to them about random things. When the food got to the table we ordered another coke, we were halfway done with our meals and we still didn't get the refill. I had to ask the bus boy twice to get me the waitress, to which I overheard her say "they can wait." I asked her for the coke that we had ordered and also an ice tea, she sent us the coke and a bottle of lemonade flavored ice tea bottle - which is not what i was drinking before. I did not ask for that, nor did i even drink it. We asked for containers to wrap up our food, and she sent it to us with a bus boy along with the check, we weren't even asked if we would like dessert or anything else. After that the bus boys were all over our table which made us feel extremely rushed. We gave the busboy the check with the money and then she decided to come and ask if we needed anything else. The whole experience overall was disgustingly horrible. We were rushed and we felt completely uncomfortable. It wasn't like we were there and the store was closing, as far as she told us the store didn't close until midnight, we were there around 8pm and it wasn't busy at all. It's a complete shame that such horrible service is the reason we won't ever come back. I work in a restaurant and I try my absolute best to treat every guest with respect and serve them to the best...

Went out for dinner with family and we got stuffed mushrooms with eggplant , a few glasses of wine .. linguini and clam sauce( terrible ).. veal parm with pasta ( which was decent).. pasta with broccoli rabe and sausage( ok)..but the food lacked flavor , pasta was overcooked, sauce was very watery in the clam sauce no flavor and although one of us didn’t eat the food they did not make a effort to make up for it , The waitress never came back after we told her about the dish, never apologized and When the bus boy took finally took the plate away ..no one asked if they could get us something else…. ( my family was still eating ) They took $8 off the total of our bill but next time this happens to someone they should really offer something else to the customer or at least take more then $8 off for something that was BARELY touched :( … We heard great things about this pizzeria/restaurant but we were very disappointed with the customer service and food.
