Souvlaki Street North Bellmore — Restaurant in Town of Hempstead

Was looking forward to trying this place as we saw it was under new ownership with good reviews. We placed our order online, were told 25-35mins. Arrived 35 mins later for pickup. Our ordered wasn't prepared yet & now Ive been waiting inside for 10-15mins. There were quite a few of us waiting. Another customer come in to return her to-go order bc she received the wrong gyros. They quickly replaced hers (as they should) but I was still waiting. Needless to say we finally received our order, got it home and my husbands chicken gyro was unfortunately full of fat and rubbery skin, which he ended up throwing away. :( Luckily my greek salad with generous side of chicken kebabs was good. (not great) We did ask for no onions and croutons which did not happen. (onions were there and croutons were not) I also received the wrong salad dressing. (Not big deals but many missed details.) As I said, we were looking forward to trying this place as we saw all the other positive reviews. I want to believe this was a bad experience bc it was a busy Saturday night and they were a bit overwhelmed but this is no excuse for inedible food. I was in the area and craving Greek food and I saw the reviews. This was the most delicious Greek food I’ve had in a very long time. The lamb/beef gyro meat was delicious and moist. Although the gyro platter is a little pricey it comes with a very generous portion of food (and that’s coming from someone with a huge appetite). Love the lemon potatoes. The authentic Greek pork sausage (Loukaniko) was tasty. The stuffed grape leaves were fresh and delicious. I’m writing this review on a food high and I’m very happy. I liked it so much that I wanted to call in and let them know but instead I wrote this review. The inside wasn’t overly fancy, but it was clean and there are several tables where you can sit. If I could rate them six stars it would be well deserved! We ordered delivery, got a DIY bowl and lamb gyro. Both portions were huge - the rotisserie lamb meat was moist and delicious, and all the ingredients in the bowl were flavorful and plentiful! We had asked for some extra sauce that didn’t make it in our delivery order bag (they use third party services, e.g. DoorDash, GrubHub), and the owner was kind enough to hand deliver the sauces herself. Even after all of that though, the icing on the cake was the baklava dessert we ordered. I’ve had my fair share of subpar baklava that you can tell has been sitting out where the dough gets damp and everything’s just “soft.” Quite the contrary, we were given a huge slice (which is only $6 FYI) with crisp and flaky phyllo dough and juicy layers of honey soaked nuts that was the perfect texture.
