I have been ordering weekly from Tropical Jerk in Baldwin since they opened and I really enjoyed the food. However, recently I have noticed that the quality and quantity of the food has changed. This review was prompted by weeks of disappointment and my recent order yesterday. I ordered jerk chicken and snapper, both orders of jerk chicken were severely burnt all over, hard, dry crispy burnt and not edible. Maybe this burnt chicken was a one off, but that condition of chicken should have been noticed and thrown away, instead of served to customers. The chicken also has not been having its nice marinated jerk flavor, for a while. Maybe the chef is different. Staff turnover is very high at this site. The staff is only friendly and approachable to their friends, not to overall customers, which is unfortunate. Also, the peas and rice which I love, hardly had any peas and was mainly rice. The snapper was good, it’s fried, could be spicy, it lacked spicy flavor. There are lots of food items that I love ordering such as the curry goat, oxtails and snapper fish. Although prices have increased for food items, they are not outrageous, however portion sizes and quality of some food items have reduced significantly. I hope this restaurant return to serving quality food and see the value of engaging in positive customer relationships. This is my family’s weekly go to food spot! I love the almost like home cooked meals and supporting local black owned business in my...
Read moreIf I could give the place zero stars I would. The cashier was extremely rude. There is a menu displayed which stated Entrees come with rice and peas/white rice, veg, salad and plantains. I ordered a medium entree, stew chicken with rice and peas. The cashier asked me if I wanted a vegetable, and I responded yes. I also said, I wanted everything I saw that’s supposed to come with the entree, which is displayed. The cashier said, we don’t have plantains and that sign is old. I said okay. She gave me my total, I went to insert my debit card into the card machine, and the cashier said, just hit okay 2x and hit enter. I said I just always read the machine for myself. She then said, with an attitude, there is nothing to read, just hit okay, okay and enter. Also, the tip questions at the beginning of the transaction does not work. It doesn’t matter if the tip questions work, I have the right to read any questions before I authorize my transaction. This cashier was extremely rude and disrespectful. So, I didn’t purchase anything. I left. This is unfortunate, this place was recommended to me, and I did want to try it. I’m not giving my money to an establishment who feels they can treat/talk to customers in a rude manner. You will not get my business and I will not refer you. This was New...
Read moreFrom the moment I walked into Tropical Jerk, the vibe was warm and inviting, and the aromas instantly transported me to the Caribbean. What really stood out during my visit was the exceptional service provided by a wonderful Rasta woman. Her friendly demeanor and detailed explanations of the menu made it so easy to choose from the delicious options.
As a first-timer to Caribbean cuisine, her guidance was invaluable. She recommended the jerk chicken, fry chicken and oxtail, which was perfectly seasoned and cooked to smoky perfection. She also suggested the rice and peas, which complemented the spicy chicken beautifully.
Her knowledge of the menu and attentive service made my dining experience truly memorable. Thanks to her, I felt confident in trying new dishes and learned a lot about the unique flavors that make Caribbean food so special.
Tropical Jerk is more than just a restaurant; it's a delightful culinary journey, and thanks to the wonderful staff—especially the kind Rasta woman—it's a journey I look forward to taking again soon. Highly recommend to anyone looking for authentic, flavorful...
