Mecate Mexican Restaurant & Bar — Restaurant in Town of Henrietta

My son & I ate here in Henrietta ny today 6/16/2025 Father’s Day. While the service was great , the food was so bland. Starting out with the complimentary basket to chips & salsa. The salsa was not right, it was like v8 juice with a ton of cilantro added. Staff / cooks definitely needs to learn about spices other than cinnamon, cilantro, & onions. I had the chimichanga packed full of beef & chicken , lots of onion, maybe 5 black beans , was so incredibly bland, filling but bland. The coffee was ok but not very flavorful. My son said his meal was so bland and flavorless. Then the worst was the way way over- poured margarita. Definitely a 1 & done, on the small regular size. Way too much tequila. * Your doing no one a favor with it like that. A customer should never get that much alcohol in a single drink. It took 2 of us to drink it and both had to be over the legal limit when we left the premises . We could not carry on a quiet/ private conversation , staff was so loud , sometimes obnoxiously loud. This review is for the location in Albion,ny .service here was absolutely horrible for a table of 6, we were told the wait was 30 minutes. we ended up waiting for over an hour. But a group of 5 came after us and were seated right away, i believe this was because it was the hostesses mother. Then when we were seated we had to sit in separate booths of 3 and 3. So not very accommodating. The food was ok, I ordered the chimichanga but there was not enough cheese on it and the beans had no flavor, the portion size of the rice and beans was very small compared to other restaurants we have visited.I also was disappointing as the adult food came out and the children’s food of just a side of fries and chicken fingers and fries came out about 10 minutes later. So I didn’t care for that at all after waiting for such a long time. The waitress took a long time to even come back to ask for drink refills. Wanted Mexican so checked out yelp. First in ratings was closed so chose Mecate in Henrietta. The shrimp cerviche looked tempting so ordered that. Now Mexican food is normally flavorful could be spicy and or hot but definitely flavors burst out. Not with cerviche. Lots of shrimp but it was of the tough possibly overdone type which you really had chew on. But the worst part was the lack of flavor. A bit of lime some cilantro would have immeasurably enhanced the taste. But what we got was bland bland.
