When we first walked into the restaurant it was very hot. After we were at our table a family with two young children came in the like maybe 5 year old was complaining of being hot even before any food came out. The light bulbs in our area were burnt out in the ceiling so the lighting was super low. As we sat there it was increasingly smoky in the restaurant. They only had one person up front so the service was slow. The appetizers mostly are pakora appetizers, which was a bummer. The food we ordered was medium and spicy for the appetizers. They were both spicy which made me nervous for ordering medium for my paneer korma. When it came out, it was definitely mild and had like no spice. The taste was good and there was a lot of paneer in the gravy. The chicken tikka naan was okay, more like tandoori chicken naan. The other dishes were low spice as well though they were ordered to be medium and spicy. I went to the bathroom before leaving and there was a bug crawling around the drain next to the toilet. The soap container is on the wall next to the paper towels and toilet so it is not a proper place for it. And then when I looked up at the ceiling, there was a hole with what appears to be molded out areas and it looks like it could fall at any time.
The whole experience 1 star. The...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI like spicy foods and was very happy with the food here. My tendency is to order too much, so I can bring food home, and that's what happened. I had chicken momo as an appetizer. Spicy, delicious dumplings in a fantastic sauce. Also Chana Masala (which I took home), which tasted moderately spicy (though ordered mild). Delicious. Also, Royal Special Mix Grill (a sampler platter with salmon, lamb, chicken, a bed of vegetables - all beautifully arranged). Dinner came with plentiful, delicious rice and naan (our group ordered garlic naan). The waiters and waitress were very attentive and friendly, and willing to explain foods unfamiliar to us. Service was quick. The environment was relaxed and quiet. I like my food very spicy (and requested that). The food was somewhat spicy and, nonetheless, delicious. One member of the group wanted extremely mild spice - she felt the Chana Masala was to spicy for her. It ranked low to medium on my spiciness scale. Prices were very reasonable. They serve alcohol (we had Flying Horse beer, a 22 oz., pale, delicious lager). I would heartily recommend Royal of India. The menu is extensive with something for omnivores, vegetarians, and vegans....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAuthenticity and flavor, would be two words I would use to describe what Royal of India builds itself up upon. What makes this wonderful little family owned restaurant stand out from the rest is the delightful Nepali influence that adds to the scrumptious Indian food with dishes such as momos (A Nepali style chicken and/or veggie dumpling, that are handmade too), thukpa ( An aromatic soup with noodles and a vegetable/ chicken soup base) along with some other dishes. Some of my favorite Indian dishes include the Chicken tikka masala, the Royal special mix grill, ALL OF THE BIRYANIS, and I could never forget to mention the rich and tender goat curry. The service was just as good as the food, as you would imagine. Being a family-owned business, Royal strives to listen to all of its customers base and address concerns on the spot. A characteristic I enjoy seeing in a customer service oriented setting. In short, I am absolutely...
