Outstanding foods and drinks but overshadowed by awful service. The waitress Jessica K acted like she couldn't be bothered with customers. She gave us a snuff when we answered "tap water" to her "sparkling or tap?" question. We gave the benefit of a doubt for maybe she was having an off day. The service got worse from there, took our drinks order an didn't explain how to order foods, when we tried to also order appetizers with our drinks, her response halfway walking out was "we only take drinks order first here, you'll have to order all your foods including main all at the same time". Pretty interesting response, we thought, we would have understood if she was running around taking care of customers and might have been an oversight but 2/3 of the restaurant was empty with only 3-4 tables seated and we're the only one with guests in our section. She didn't bother to say that at the beginning like "let me take your drink order first, I'll make sure the bar makes it as soon as possible and come back to take your foods order after, does that work?". What separates the great service with subpar one is just merely communication and Jessica was less than subpar for someone who is customer facing staff. All of the drinks were fabulous and foods as well. We got octopus, brussel sprout, and meatballs for appetizers, pappardelle and scallops for mains and the foods were devine. By the time we got our receipt, she threw the receipt at the table and walked away, no explanation as to whether she would be back to get the card when we're ready, we had to figure out that we can pay with Apple pay on the receipt. Someone this rude should never be put in front of customers. Would have come back for the excellent foods and drinks but won't recommend due to how awful Jessica K made us feel. Doesn't matter if a chef and bartenders worked their tail off to make amazing dishes, but the wait staff is the only interaction anyone has with a restaurant. If the staff isn't trained or held to a high standard like the food, I cannot recommend anyone to go through this experience while paying high...
Read moreAt one point I thought that JHH was the best restaurant in Greene county (whatever that’s worth), but after a very disappointing meal last night that’s no longer the case.
The menu is small, which often isn’t an issue, but unfortunately that leaves you with a choice of Brussels sprouts as an appetizer, or paying $30 for octopus or some kind of confused pseudo-Asian pork rib dish. A better range of pricing for appetizers would have been nice.
We got the sprouts and they were tasty enough, but cooked until black and served lukewarm, and as such no longer crispy.
We ended up ordering two specials for our entrees, a duck breast dish and porchetta. After a few minutes, while we were still working on our appetizer, our waiter returned to tell us that the kitchen made a mistake and our entrees were ready. They arrived at our table cold. The flavor of the duck dish was good, but the cherry compote that it came with was riddled with pits and pit fragments. The porchetta seemed cured and smoked, which would have been fine if it had been billed as such. More importantly the skin was flabby and nobody even attempted to crisp it.
After our entrees we asked to see a dessert menu, but there is none. Our waiter rattled off a handful of desserts, all of which had gluten, and we decided to just eat ice cream at home.
We were out for Valentine’s Day and my husband was driving, so I went into the experience looking forward to having a couple of glasses of wine, and maybe even a nightcap with dessert. With the appetizer and entrees arriving so closely I didn’t have time for more than one glass of wine, and even though we didn’t get dessert there wasn’t a list of after dinner drinks to consider anyway.
We dine out often and expect to pay for quality food and service. I think I’m particularly chaffed by the experience we had last night because JHH has priced themselves as an upscale experience, but didn’t offer any of the service or value one expects from a restaurant priced at...
Read moreI cannot recommend Jessie's Harvest House enough! My husband and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary with a dinner here, and it was absolutely amazing. From start to finish, the experience was outstanding.
The atmosphere is cozy and romantic, with warm lighting and rustic decor. The service was exceptional. Our server was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. He provided excellent recommendations and made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in the door.
And then the food - oh my god! We started with fries, which were crispy and delicious. The teriyaki chicken with rice was flavorful and cooked to perfection, while the aged rib-eye steak was one of the best my husband has ever had (his exact words). The meat was tender and juicy, with a rich, smoky flavor.
But the true highlight of the meal was the dessert. As it was our anniversary, the restaurant offered us a complimentary tasting plate, which included a chocolate brownie, strawberry pie, and blueberry gelato. Each bite was a heavenly experience - rich, creamy, and bursting with flavor.
Overall, Jessie's Harvest House exceeded our expectations in every way. The food, service, and location were all exceptional. If you're in the Catskills area, do not miss the chance to dine at this amazing restaurant. We will...
