Rachel’s bakery on Ocean Beach, NY is hands down the only place tourists and visitors should come to when visiting. No other place on the island has quite the hospitality that the owners Joe and his wife Angela have here, not to mention sherry and Maggie. First off you are welcomed with open arms by them all and you feel right at home like you’ve known them your entire life. The entire atmosphere is warm and inviting unlike any other place here. The music is perfect not blasting in your ear like most places. The breakfast is delicious and made to perfection, not to mention the lunch, dinner and the desserts. The desserts are to die for, always fresh and alway home made like everything here. You can tell just by the looks and the taste of the food it was made with love. It’s just like being a child again at Grandma and Moms for the perfect home cooked meal. Five stars is not enough stars to rate this Bakery and resteraunt, they deserve a lot more then that. Definitely recommend this place to anyone who comes and if you don’t come you are sadly missing out on the best kept secret fire island...
Read moreSo, typical of Ocean Beach proprietors, these folks say one thing and do another. We called them and asked if they'd be open the next day. "Oh yes, we'll be here" Nope, closed, like all the others in Ocean Beach last week in September. Lame. To top if off, while it wasn't raining but Ocean Beach, flood zone, mosquito haven...the whole area is basically below sea level. A dude on a bike warned us not to walk down the main business path because it was sewage, not rainwater. All the houses over there were perched above stagnant swamp water. Signs all over stating No Drinking, No Food, No Dogs, No Music at the beach. OK, so we have to walk in mosquito infested sewage water to the beach, without food or drink, and then come back to town where nothing is open? Eff that. Believe me, go...
Read moreWISH I COULD GIVE LESS THAN ONE STAR... My daughter and friends tried to eat dinner there tonight to celebrate her bday and realized that the prices were too high for their budget... they were trying to leave when Joe (who is supposedly the owner) got in their faces demanding money for the water they were served and use of the bathroom. He was completely unprofessional and tried to start a fight with an 18 year old boy... These kids left $20 on the table despite not being served anything but water (so they are NOT rude kids). Anyway GL with your failing business... there is a reason why there were 4 ppl in your restaurant and a crowd across the street! Oh and btw if this happens all the time (as you said to me on the phone), maybe you should try adjusting your prices and your attitude...
