We stopped in this joint for date night. Let me tell you that Peter Foz (the owner) took great care of us. (FYI- don’t play darts with that man - your soul will be snatched away). Peter made us feel extra special with the seafood samplers and clams on the half shell. The baked clams were phenomenal! The man put chorizo in them! Who does that?! I personally do not like Oysters Rockefeller but these were exquisite! He uses sambuca and challots in his reduction sauce for them. You have to try them. Let me tell you about the Buffalo Cauliflower bites———DUDE! These taste like chicken and you cannot tell the difference and it’s so hard to feel bad eating a whole plate. The mussels in the white wine sauce were like a bowl of heaven in your mouth. The salads were refreshing and delightful for the healthy eaters. You felt like you were cheating but weren’t. The ambience was clean and nice - not a lot of kids and the drunken riff raff either. Definitely recommend coming here. They do breakfast, lunch, dinner and late night mid-rats (that’s military...

My fiancé and I decided to spend our date night on Fire Island. Based on recommendations from some of his colleagues, we chose to dine at The Dunes. Upon arrival, we were promptly seated inside by the hostess. However, we sat for over 15 minutes without being offered water or greeted by a server. Honestly, we shouldn't have waited that long.
I approached the hostess to ask who our server was, in hopes it wasn’t the young girl with long blonde hair. Unfortunately, it turned out to be her. She passed by our table multiple times without acknowledging us. Other patrons who were seated after us received attention before we did. As the only Black customers in a predominantly non-Black restaurant, I wasn't surprised by this treatment.
We decided to leave and go to a better establishment that values its customers. Shout out to Albatross for the best service. I will not be returning to The Dunes, even if I were...
Read moreI had a wonderful time at this place. I was visiting after having moved away from Long Island 7 years ago; and I have not been back to Fire Island though I have visited many times so this restaurant was new to me.
I believe it is a relatively new restaurant the staff was very helpful and kind to us and I felt like the food was absolutely delicious. very creative menu. I feel like this was a great date place the only downside is it does get a little loud there.
still though the environment was great and friendly and welcoming. I do not feel like it was like a rowdy bar like some other spots. this had a great view of the sunset we were placed in the window but inside instead of outside where it gets chilly in the evening.
I would recommend this as a great dinner spot.
