Tonnam Thai Kitchen — Restaurant in Town of Islip

I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. The owner's attitude was extremely rude and unprofessional. Instead of making customers feel welcome, she acted like we were a burden. I would not recommend this place to anyone — there are plenty of other restaurants with better service and more respectful staff.

In addition, the owner’s response to my comment is completely misleading and unprofessional. I never used the “F” word — that is a false accusation. What actually happened is that I was quietly looking at the menu and didn’t realize you were on the phone. When I said I was ready to order, you yelled at me three times in a very disrespectful tone, as if I didn’t understand English. That kind of behavior is unacceptable, especially from someone running a business.

And for the record, I simply said something in my own language when I left — I did not use any offensive words in English. It's disappointing that instead of taking responsibility for your unprofessional behavior, you’re twisting the story to blame a customer. I stand...

I’ve been here several times before and it has always been a solid 5-star experience. Unfortunately, my most recent visit was not at the same level.

We ordered the crispy pork belly, clams basil, shrimp basil, shrimp salad, and beef satay. The beef satay and shrimp salad were good, but the other dishes really missed the mark. The crispy pork belly was dry, chewy, and overwhelmed by sauce. Both basil dishes were also very heavy on sauce and onions, and overall far too salty. It felt more like a Chinese interpretation of Thai food. We also requested medium spice, but the heat level was far below that.

Not sure if there was a new chef or an off night, but compared to past visits, the quality just...

Delicious!! Ordered a quick lunch consisting of Tom Kha Gai soup and drunken noodles. Noodles were extra hot and spicy, as requested, and were spicy as they were supposed to be. Both were very good, only minor criticism is that i prefer the noodles a bit more al dente and more of them... seemed like more veggies than noodles in my order, but as i said it was delicious. Dishes were both served nice and hot as well... couldn't scarf it down without scalding my mouth. It's a small unassuming place, a few tables and chairs inside, maybe better to order from than dine-in. Otherwise, I definitely will order from again, many appetizing Thai dishes and drinks on the menu I am curious about. ...
