Well, dinner was disappointing, to say the least. I called the restaurant with my $150 dinner order at 12:30 p.m. for a 5:00 p.m. pickup. While the woman who took my order was very friendly, she seemed to be having quite a bit of trouble inputting my order. She started over at least three times. More than 20 minutes later, the order was placed, and she assured me it would be ready for 5:00 p.m. pickup. Due to logistics, my daughter went to get our food, and I was going to meet her to get my part of the order. Two pizzas and wings were ready at 5:00, but the four entrees, she was told, would take another 20 minutes. The reason she was given was that the order was through Doordash, and they're always late getting the order in. I had called the restaurant directly to place the order; I did not use Doordash. Since I was halfway to the restaurant at that point, I ended up going there after all. I asked about the delay. Doordash wasn't mentioned at all. Instead I was told the kitchen must have forgotten the entrees part of the order. By the time those came out, the pizzas and wings were already cold. When I got the food home, they were even colder. The seafood fra diavlo had less than a cup of pasta, so there was not enough to have with the seafood and sauce. The riggies with vodka sauce, which was the preferred pasta and which I was told would be included with the chicken parm, was linguine instead. While the taste was good for the entrees, this definitely was not what I expected for $150. The ordering system through the restaurant needs to be addressed, the food orders need to be better coordinated so some pieces aren't getting cold while others haven't even been made, and the kitchen needs to be on top of the orders that need to be prepared. This might be understandable if the restaurant were busy, but at 5:00, there were few diners. Hopefully these issues will be reviewed to avoid others having...
Read moreDined here on a recent Friday night. Though the restaurant was not overly busy, our server seemed very rushed, apologizing repeatedly for things that really weren't a big deal but that hinted at the generally disappointing experience we would have.
The food was universally disappointing. We did mention this to the manager, who was visiting tables and actively encouraging feedback (we appreciated this). Salads were swimming in a very tangy house vinaigrette. My entree - scallops with risotto - had undercooked arborio and overcooked scallops. My partner's entree - lobster ravioli - had a very sweet sauce that overpowered any subtlety the dish might have otherwise had. At the encouragement of the manager (who nicely sought our feedback during the meal and took half off my entree when we informed her how disappointing it was), we had desert - a "triple chocolate cake". Though presented nicely with a pretty swirl of chocolate sauce and real whipped cream on the side, the cake tasted like it came from the frozen section of the local Tops supermarket - it was ice cold and correspondingly hard.
On the plus side, the beer and wine selections were plentiful and the coal-fired pizza looked tasty though we didn't try it.
My wife and I are fans of the Avicolli's on Route 57; we learned from the manager that this venture is not directly related (though one of the founders of the Route 57 Avicolli's is behind the Fayetteville restaurant too).
Over the last twenty years I've been to each of the restaurants that have been in this beautiful location, and I've been sad to see each one go. I would love to see Avicolli's Coal Fire succeed, but they'll need to improve the quality of the food and the...
Read moreI went here with my wife for her pre-birthday dinner on Sunday 5/21/23. No one greeted us upon entering until about 5 minutes of standing there. She (Harley) took a longer than necessary time to seat us (we had reservations, but it was not that busy). Harley and another waitress walked us in, pointed to a booth near the window and said there that booth and both walked away not asking us if we wanted a drink. About 5 minutes passed (not too long) and Harley came over. She asked if we have ever been there before, and we said it was our first visit. She said very exciting, took our drink orders, brought them right away and said she would bring us bread while we were looking over the menu. Tick...tick.....tick....a half hour went by....no bread, no one checking on us and good ole Harley was catering to a large table of patrons who were ordering a lot of food and drinks. Harley took pictures with them, laughed with them and completely forgot about my wife and I. Another waitress peeked around the corner at us but made no effort to communicate anything to us. I said to my wife...let's pay for our drinks (because we drank them) and leave. We left money on the table for the drinks, got up, walked by who I assumed is a manager who stated, 'have a good night" (he had no idea what happened). I told him we were not served and are leaving. He quickly asked if there was anything he could do, I told him no and that we will never be back.
My wife and I go out to eat a lot and are good tippers. We have never left a restaurant like that... ever. Please note that it was not that busy. It seems Harley wanted to make sure the big table was taken care of, but our table didn't matter. Very...
