I've been enjoying King David's Mediterranean food since the mid-70's. The original restaurant on Marshall Street was established by the father of the current owners who worked for their dad as young men. When the father retired, the business was divided, with one son opening a new restaurant in Fayetteville and the other taking over the Marshall Street location, but moving to a smaller upstairs space. Having eaten at both restaurants, it is my opinion that the larger Fayetteville restaurant serves the best food. The chicken pesto pizza is an excellent starter for 2-4 to share. The platform is a 12" piece of crispy pita bread topped with delicious cheese, chicken, black olives, tomatoes, and pesto sauce. For your main course, try the babagnouge ala carte platter which includes salad, pita bread, and a falafel patty, or order the chicken shish kabob over rice which comes with salad, falafel, pita bread, and hummus. Other items on the menu that we love include the beef chawarma sandwich, the Greek salad with chicken, and when it's available, the mushroom soup. For something different, try the apricot nectar as a beverage. I think it pairs well with the food, particularly if you make liberal use of the hot sauce. At the far end of the dining room, there's a door leading to a skylight-lit patio that's pleasant in the summer. For lunch, you place your order at the register as you enter and it's delivered to your table. At dinner, you are seated and the waitstaff takes your order and brings your food. Service is excellent and the environment is relaxed and comfortable. UPDATE-1: It seems that the pita bread may be thinner than it once was. The beef shawarma sandwich falls apart pretty easily. Delicious with added Frank's Red Hot, but a little messy. UPDATE-2: I was up for a light lunch and chose a Greek salad without chicken. It served the purpose perfectly and tasted great. UPDATE-3: Even though the fattoush salad is no longer on the menu, the staff kindly prepared it for me. It was very good, but I do prefer the...
Read moreBig fan of their food and consider myself a semi-regular (2-4 times a month), but a recent visit left a real sour taste in my mouth; I dont plan on visiting again for a while. Went an hour before closing on a friday night (40 minute drive for us to get there btw), stood waiting to be seated for about 5 minutes while a guy was sweeping (I'm sure he saw us), when finished he walked over and said "we decided to close early tonight", no apology or anythong. Randomly deciding to close early is NOT good customer, some of make specific trips to patronize your business. The kicker was that when we walked in he left us standing there while he swept. If i decided to slack off and close early like this guy did, i would at least not waste customer's time more than had already been done. It was a friday night too (black friday actually), i could see this on a tuesday. We left ticked off and still craving middle eastern food, se we headed up to Munjed's on Westcott and had a delicious meal with decent service. I suspect that will become...
Read moreThis actually had nothing to do with the food. Our meal was great. Unfortunately, this was more of a customer service rating. I would gove it a one star but we were in line behind a nasty customer and the young girl at the register handled the situation great after getting money thrown at her for no reason. This was to the cooks in the back... they CLEARLY do not want to be there. The girl with the backwards cap, every other word out of her mouth was the F word. Complaining about people watching her all day and so on. Like you work in a kitchen that is COMPLETELY open.... if you don't like it then please do us customers a favor and go find a different job. I mean it was so horrible that my very patient husband said that we were never coming back here again. We have been going there for over 10 years. I NEVER post terrible or bad reviews but I find this so...
