FOOD: Food was OKAY at best.. We had two bowls of soup come out with a film/ crust ontop of them.. Everyone's Fries/ onion rings came out at room temp or cold! Appetizers never came out that were ordered... Grilled cheese had a slab of cheese in the middle that was not melted down. Some things were not taken off of burgers like requested when ordered! And we had to go up to the bar and hound the waiter for our drinks and refills!! Positive note burgers/ sandwiches ordered outside of the grilled cheese were half way decent.. SERVICE: It was by far the WORST service I have ever experienced anywhere!! It took us about 5 Mins to be seated. We were seated and waiting for the rest of our party to show up.. Handed two menus and were never asked what we wanted drink wise.. The rest of our party got there maybe 2-3 mins later!! 8 people then had to share 2 menus.. About 25 minutes into us sitting there our waiter finally came over to take our DRINK ORDER!! We were all ready to order food at that point so we put in our full order! 10 minutes after the order was placed (mind you were already there for 35 minutes some of us longer) we still have NO DRINKS! We had to go up and hound the freaking waiter at the bar to get everyone's drinks and over half were freaking lemon water!! Nothing complicated... So now we have drinks only bc we went up and got them OURSELVES! It took about an hour after our order was placed for food to start coming out and we were not served as a group/ table... food came out for individual ppl at random times (At this point we had been there for an hour and a half) .. First the soup came out which like stated above had a crust/ film like it had been sitting! Then the kids meals came out and my sons grilled cheese had solid unmelted cheese on it.. Fries and tenders were cold! Then a Ruben came out, and a burger (sandwiches were warm but again fries and onion rings were room temp at best)! Fiances garbage plate came out and that was so cold he wouldn't eat it until he could warm it up at home!! Then last but not least when everyone was pretty much through eating.. my food finally hit the table (rodeo burger with things on it that i had asked to be taken OFF, freezing fries)... Mind you we had all Ben there for close to 2 HOURS at this point! We never were asked if we wanted a refill not once we had to take our glass up to the end of the BAR For that!! And we never received the appetizers we asked for! Like I said AWEFUL SERVICE THAT TOOK FOREVER.. they had food flying out the door for takeout and other ppl in smaller groups or that sat at the bar getting served way before we did that came in an hour or more after we got there! So my best advice I guess is DO NOT GOIN WITH A LARGE GROUP.. and maybe you'll have a more pleasant experience!! I for one will NEVER go back here again based on service and food quality being as poor as it was! ATMOSPHERE: Very SMALL!! Maybe 12 tables total outside of the bar! A few tables that seated 4, only one that seats 6, and the rest are 2 person tables!! Definitely more of a sports BAR vibe then a...
Read moreWhere to begin? I donât usually make reviews but as a local, I need to share this one. Moved to the area a few years ago. Looked for a quiet place to âtry to make homeâ for evenings out. Tried High Banks about a year ago. Sat at the bar with my better half. Ordered a couple cocktails with Tonic. Tonic was âflatâ. Commented but they had nothing for a back up. Did not eat there! So we kicked that place off the list, and decided not to return! Recently a year or so later, we went back thinking maybe it was just a bad night for our bad experience. Again sat at the bar . Had a beer, âcanât mess that upâ while I waited for a take out order, which was very good (fish fry). Returned again with 5 others and sat at the Bar. Everyone had a good time and cocktails were made to expectation! I wonât mention the bar tender who waited on us for fear of getting that person in trouble for âmaking appropriate cocktails (quantity or pour)â! Had finger foods, no issues. Bar tender very polite and friendly and knew how to make drinks! My lady and I Returned today with the intent of having a couple drinks and appetizer while once again ordering a fish fry for take out (due to being very good), ordered glass of wineâŠâŠdouble vodka on the rocks dirty! Well, when the bar tender brought them to us we both looked at each other simultaneously with raised eye browsâŠâŠI wonder if the bar tender caught our looks. The âpoursâ were very shy of what we were used to. The wine wasnât even close to a 6 oz let alone my lady was never asked if she wished for a 6 or 9 oz which weâve been accustomed too! My dirty vodka on the rocks needed some attention as the pour looked like it was done in a lab with electronically measured allowances for volume. Was dirty but commonly comes with an olive or 2 when ordering it dirty, and barely had ice in the glass. Neither was delivered onto a cocktail napkin or coaster as is common! We would have probably had a second drink but for the cost and lack of a good pour, we declined. $14 for a double (by exact measurement via shot glass), one more I could have purchased an entire bottle. I know bars need to make money, I get it. Youâre already making over 300% profit on every bottle of liquor per 1 oz sold and it wouldnât hurt you to give out a âgood / estimatedâ pour to keep patrons returning. Enough rant, so needless to say, we wonât be visiting any time soon unless maybe for a bottle of beer âwhich canât be screwed upâ. Hate to say it but weâll miss seeing your employee that I wonât mention by name as we really enjoy her service and pleasantries. Good luck. FYI, so, do right by your customers, they...
Read moreIn the vibrant tapestry of eateries dotting the journey from Toronto to New York, the High Banks Tavern in Morris stands out not just as a mere pit-stop, but as a delightful culinary experience. My companions and I found ourselves serendipitously at its doors on an unexpected detour, and what a fortuitous turn of events that was!
From the outset, the ambiance of the tavern exuded a warm, welcoming charm. It was not the sterile, impersonal environment of the mega fast-food chains. Here, it felt as if every brick and timber had a story to tell. The subtle blend of classic tavern aesthetics with a touch of modern sophistication had us anticipating a meal that would be reflective of that blend.
And we weren't disappointed.
Our choices for the evening included a burger, a Reuben sandwich, and pulled pork. While these might sound like standard fare for many, the craftsmanship and passion poured into each dish by the chefs at High Banks Tavern elevated them to an entirely new echelon.
The burger was a masterclass in balance and flavor. Each bite was a melding of perfectly seasoned beef, fresh lettuce, juicy tomatoes, and a bun that was the epitome of softness, yet sturdy enough to hold everything together. I've had my fair share of burgers on my travels, and this easily ranks among the top.
The Reuben sandwich was nothing short of a revelation. The corned beef was succulent, with a flavor profile that was rich and deeply satisfying. Paired with the tang of the sauerkraut and the creamy Swiss cheese, it made for a sandwich that would make any deli aficionado nod in appreciation.
And then there was the pulled pork. Slow-cooked to perfection, it was a symphony of smokiness and tenderness. The sauce, neither too sweet nor too tangy, complimented the pork in a dance of flavors that was nothing short of mesmerizing.
Service was prompt, attentive, and genuinely friendly. It's clear that High Banks Tavern is not just about serving food, but about creating a memorable experience for every diner.
In conclusion, if your travels ever find you meandering through Morris, NY, do yourself a favor and make a stop at High Banks Tavern. Whether you're escaping the hustle and bustle of big cities or just in need of a sumptuous meal, this is the place to be. It's not just a tavern; it's an experience. And one that I'm incredibly grateful...
