We were so looking forward to our visit but from the moment we arrived our excitement bubble was deflated. This experience was so bad we actually thought we were part of a candid camera skit. Arrived and greeted, ‘reservation hun’? (That was the first of probably a dozen times I was referred to as hun or honey). I said no, she turned to the other waitress and started discussing. We stood there not knowing if we needed one to sit, mind you, there were just two other tables. I asked if we needed one and she said no, we are just trying to figure out where to sit you so we said we would sit at the bar huge mistake, should have walked out then and there. My husband asked what draft beer they had, waitress said none as cooler was broken, she proceeded to ramble on how she misses it as it acted as a shelf. We placed our order for pancakes, pierogies and eggplant napoleon. As we waited for our food the two waitresses were discussing the drinking habits of a reserved table that was due in, just seemed so unprofessional. Waitress had given us share plates and silverware but came by with two more share plates, when the food came out I had to push the abundance of share plates out of the way to make room. As we were eating our food, a gentleman came out of the kitchen and started arguing with the other waitress, from the way everybody was speaking to each other all I can assume is that they were related. We asked for the check so we could leave. To add insult to injury, the food wasn’t that good and very overpriced potato pancakes were soggy, no crispness or seasoning, pierogies again, no taste but the kraut was nice, eggplant was nice but very greasy. 3% service fee added to check, I assume because it was card but nobody said that to us. An hour and $100 we will never get back for this most...
Read moreWonderful place! Family owned and operated for 3 generations. Food is always impeccable. They serve a tasty selection of German foods that are prepared traditionally, as well as a fantastic selection of american picks. Their roast beef dinner will remind you of Mom’s homemade Sunday dinner as kid. It's the ultimate comfort food. The NY strip steak is my very favorite, always cooked to perfection, I order it with their creamy homemade mashed potatoes and fresh veggies. The shrimp cocktail is always fresh, served with a zesty homemade cocktail sauce. A couple of other must try appetizers here are the Clammer Jammers and the Eggplant Napoleon, both are amazing. This is one place where you do not want to skip the bread. It is a signature of Gus’s. They make their own rye bread, fresh sliced for each table and it's out of this world. Something else worth mentioning, most of the servers have been working here for years and years and years. I'm talking like 10, 20 years. I feel that is a credit to the lovely dedicated family that owns this restaurant. Family is always on hand and very friendly. Many recipes are old family recipes that they take great pride in serving. My family has been going here since the 60's. Nowadays my husband and I rarely go anywhere else. Why would we? Great food, great service, great prices and if I am going to spend my money going out somewhere, I am happy to give it to a family that really cares about their business, employees and their customers...
Read moreMy two kids and I went here for dinner tonight. We had appetizers and dinner. We all had the same dinner. Pork Schnitzel. They were all dry but I was the only one who sent mine back and very quietly told the waitress it was dry. We didn’t ask or expect anything. The waitress who was extremely nice comped half of it. We were in 2 cars and as we were leaving I see the owner talking to my son in his car. I figured maybe he knew him from somewhere because we have been here before. My son calls me to say the owner approached him to ask him why we sent a dish back & on & on about how he shouldn’t have comped anything. I have never ever had an owner of any business confront myself or my family in a parking lot. We go back to ask him why he would do this and he had been drinking and kept asking the same questions “ why did I send it back” “ how was it dry” he even had the cutlet in a zip lock bag on the bar. There was no point in continuing the conversation because we weren’t getting any where and I doubt he’ll will even remember tomorrow. The staff was very nice & apologetic and probably mortified by his actions. It’s sad because it used to be...
