Firebox Jamaican Restaurant — Restaurant in City of Newburgh

Before I review I just want to note that I am an UberEats and Doordash delivery driver in my spare time, so I am exposed to a lot of different foods and get an idea of where the good spots are. I was in the area after going offline and was honestly looking for a restroom somewhere. Instead I found Firebox and totally forgot to even ask if they had a restroom once I paid for my dinner plate. The place is small (ultimately perfect for take out) but don't let that fool you, it's nothing but good vibes. I knew the food would be good when I saw the grill. But after actually trying it, you'll see what I'm talking about. The jerk chicken was absolutely phenomenal, marinated and a good cut of chicken. It wasn't dry or fatty and had lots of flavor. The oxtails were also very good, if you like oxtails go for it here. The cabbage was something I would go back for. And the rice and beans absorbed all the flavors from the gravies and sauces on the meats. This food is cooked with straight love. I do like the food and when I went in person they very nice however the one time I was so exhausted and could not drive there I did order door dash. I received a call from my dasher stating the employee wanted to speak to me to ask if I wanted someone else instead of plantains because they had nomore. The options he gave weren’t to my liking so I said no thank you. He told me he wouldn’t contact door dash to get my money refunded or he couldn’t have simply put my refund inside the bag with the dasher idk something! Instead he never did as he said and I basically gave them free money. If I was short the amount of money the plantains cost they would have never let me leave the restaurant with them so why would you do that to a customer supporting your business? Amazing First Experience at Firebox Jamaican Restaurant!!!

My husband and I were searching for a place to eat late on July 4th night, and being his birthday, we were leaning towards Jamaican food. We found Firebox Jamaican restaurant online, and despite it being a 30-minute drive, we decided to give it a try. This was our first visit, and we have absolutely no regrets!

From the moment we arrived, it felt like home. The warm greeting we received upon entering set the tone for the night. I ordered oxtails, and my husband had fish. Both dishes were exceptional, and after tasting his fish, I had to order one for myself!
