I came here from the likes of loving the mini combo at "El Valle" and being a regular there, so I assumed that all Dominican spots would be able to at least match the quality of a simple meal. That was my first mistake. I've also seen other Nellys, but strayed away due to the reviews. But, you never know until you try right? That was my second mistake. While the lady who made the food was very nice, I wish I could say the same about the meal. The rice was alright, but tasted like it had been sitting for a while. I'm assuming it was, due to the fact that the place was very empty. The beans weren't very well seasoned, nor did it have that "soupy" feel that to it that I love (I used to always request extra of it poured over the rice at El Valle - If you're in BX you know what that restaurant is). The beans here, were actually mushy and looked like a paste. The 1/2 chicken was very dry and it did have SOME seasoning but it wasn't the best. However, being that I paid my hard earned money for this, I ate it since I didn't want it to go to waste. I will not be returning and the lunch combo was very lackluster. I know now why most Nellys I've past by are always empty and why most reviews at almost all of them aren't...
Read moreOmG the mofongos were delicious. The best I've had in NY so far even when visiting several places in Washington Heights (Malecón, Casa del mofongo, etc.). We had Mofongo de pollo guisado, mofongo de carne frita and mofongo de camarones al ajillo. They were wonderful. Mojitos were to die for. Staff was super nice. I believe the owner was nice on occasion and depending on the person; i say this because there was a little girl with special needs and her mom sitting next to us, and her mom was trying so hard to keep her child under control, but the owner came over and was not very nice about the movements and the baby touching the decorations. That threw me off. Instead of asking if everything was ok, he was just unkind. The lady informed that her baby had special needs, and he still wasn't sympathetic at all. I am sure that he is a parent but had no empathy towards them. She left with her baby, leaving her mother and other child to pay for their bill and packing the untouched food. I don't think his attitude was very customer service oriented and should improve. Please be mindful that bad reviews travel faster than good ones. Overall the...
Read moreI'm a Perto Rican born and raised in Puerto Rico. I found this place very uninviting. The hostess did not even make eye contact. We call this "carnepuerca"in Puerto Rico. The Goya passion fruit was very over priced $4 a lil glass for kids. 1liter cost $1.99 at the store. Carne frita with no onion that's a (no no) in general. I wouldn't reccomend this place if you are looking for real authentic Puertorican food. The tip of the ice was at dessert time when the hostess delivered the dessert she was to good to even place on the table or even look at my 9yr old son, he said daddy the lady didn't even look at us that's rude. This place does not represent true Puerto Rican culture and heritage. My rating 1 through 5 ... zero. By the way my wife is Irish and asked for Passoa and the hostess looked at us like we had 7 heads. Passoa is one of the top drinks on the island.... I guess she has little knowledge of popular Puerto...
