Eh, not terrible, but not impressive. The "chimichangas" turned out to be just taquitos: small, open-ended tortillas wrapped around shredded beef or chicken and fried. This was a huge disappointment, as this is why we went. Although as taquitos, they tasted fine, we were expecting a big, deep-fried, flour-tortilla burrito filled with beans, rice, corn, meat, etc., deep fried and then covered with queso. At least there was sour cream and guac on the side.
The menu online is completely different than the one in the building. The prices in real life are double what the menu on Google shows. This was quite a shock.
The complimentary chips are cold, hard, unsalted, and bland. The salsa is watery and has WAY too much sugar in it. The only chunky bits are pieces of onion floating in it. It tasted okay, but was a little disappointing, especially since the chips are not the right shape to hold watery salsa.
The beans were bland and watery, the rice was probably instant rice. Next to your entree on the plate, it's like they just laid down a thin layer of beans and rice. It wasn't a hearty portion of flavorful rice and a big bowl of well-seasoned, homemade beans. This is the type of place I imagine Gordon Ramsey tearing to shreds if he saw how things were made. Nothing about this experience felt authentic or felt like quality.
For the price, it's highway robbery. If it were half the price, it would have probably been acceptable. Me and my girl spent about $120 including tip and we got an app, 2 entrees, 2 desserts* (see next paragraph), 3 beers, and 3 mixed drinks. Again; were this Vesuvio's or higher quality food, this would have been expected. But it wasn't. It was uninspired, exactly-what-you'd-expect Mexican food.
The empanadas and churro/ice cream dessert were the stars of the show. *We also got the tres leches cake, and it had a weird, chemically aftertaste. I sent it back after only having a bite or two, and they still left it on the bill. Shameful. Our waiter was otherwise very nice and attentive, albeit a little aloof. He did offer us complimentary shots of some vanilla liqueur at the end of the meal, presumably in anticipation of knowing he left the bad dessert on the bill.
I have no interest in going here again, but I wouldn't object if someone I'm with wanted to go.
I can't urge you not to go, as there was nothing really egregious, but temper your expectations and be ready to open...
Read moreI'll start with I went here because I wanted tacos. My cousin recommended this place. I went with my cousin and my two sons, 21 and 13 years old. We had frozen margaritas, fajitas, tacos. The service and the drinks were great! Unfortunately large e to my fault I ordered tacos without looking at the menu first. I ordered tacos al pastor and I got something I totally unexpected. I'm used to getting marinated pork with pineapple in it, but here I got a version of steak tacos with rice and beans on the side, just steak inside the tortilla with the seasonings. They were happy to fix my mistake and exchange my meal for Mexican tacos, which was a little bit closer to what I felt like eating that night. The server was very helpful and considerate. I highly recommend the fajitas and the frozen margaritas are on point. I had the passion fruit frozen margarita, yum yum yum! I would return, just next time read the menu a little bit closer. Enjoy your time here. Also they are keeping very well to the covid-19 rules and regulations. I felt safe, wasn't overcrowded. You are allowed to eat indoors at this time...
Read moreI found this place over a month ago. Great food, no doubt. But today, I went in during a slow lunch hour- by myself. I was in a hurry and told them I didn’t need a menu because I knew exactly what I wanted, having had ordered the same meal many times. Despite that, I waited fourteen minutes for someone to come take my order- even after speaking to two women asking them if someone would come take my order. When the waiter finally came to take my order, he would not let me order the very beef tacos a la carte as I had AT LEAST twice before- AND during dinner hour, not lunch. I told him I had ordered them that way in the past, and he said “they don’t do that anymore.” Really? You did it last week for me. This was the first time the service was so delayed- as if they didn’t care at all that someone was waiting to order. And now what’s the deal with not selling me what you’ve sold me in the past? The waiter was willing to see me walk out instead of selling me food they’ve sold me before .You lost a customer today. And one who had been coming...
